Tools and Hardware Reviews of Fenix TK11 Q5 LED Flashlight Black Aluminum Body

Customer Review: Awesome!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

This is an amazing flashlight from Fenix, the 18650 lasts quite a long time, I have been using this for an hour or so for nearly a week, both in general and max mode, still the batteries have juice, it is very bright when used as a candle, aimed at the ceiling. Can light up a tree and my neighbor's house nearly a block away, if you're planning to buy this, get the Tenergy 18650 rechargeable batteries too, with the electronic regulator, the Tenergy charger too works well.

Customer Review: Excellent in all aspects
Summary: 5 Stars

The Fenix TK11 LED Flashlight is very well-designed and built. It's sturdy, has full O-ring seals, is small and very bright. It's perhaps a bit heavier than it needs to be, but being slightly overbuilt probably means it's much stronger than it needs to be also. The front glass is thick, anti-reflective, probably tempered, etc. The tailswitch can be operated momentary by pressing slightly or clicked full on or full off. As noted, the tailcap can be unscrewed slightly to disable and lock out the switch to prevent accidental activation. Beam focus is fixed, with a good central spot and clear, bright outer ring.

It has a low and high brightness ("Turbo") mode, changed by rotating the light assembly. It's probably better to switch off before changing modes, since the current demands are pretty different. It appears that the change works by engaging a second set of contacts on the printed circuit board to the main body. When disengaged, the circuit ground is made only through the aluminum threads, so the brighter Turbo mode may be electrically a bit better, lower resistance, etc.

Due to its size and shape, it is generally most convenient to hold and operate overhand. This will be true of any small light with a tailswitch and "cigar grip" ring, which is also meant to accompany a certain style of tactical pistol use. I'm keeping the grip ring on as a reference point and for added grip security.

The TK11 uses one 18650 Lithium Ion or two CR123A Lithium (non-rechargable) or two CR123A Lithium Ion (rechargable) batteries, which will often need to be purchased separately, as will an appropriate charger for them. Can be used with disposable CR123A Lithium batteries, which have a very long shelf life, but can't be recharged. Don't try to recharge the disposable CR123A batteries as they may explode and cause a very dangerous Lithium metal fire.

Most other LED lights will only work with 18650 or CR123A batteries since the battery diameters are different by a couple millimeters and the voltages are different. The TK11 is somewhat unusual in that it can use either type of battery. As should be expected from a fully-voltage and -current regulated design, the TK11 does work with the 3.7 Volt CR123As, even though they're a higher voltage than the 3.0 volt disposables, So it's compatible with all three Lithium battery types. The smaller-diameter CR123As do not rattle in the case.

I'm running UltraFire and SpiderFire batteries and a DSD charger found on eBay, but the Tenergy batteries and charger found on Amazon and eBay should also work well. The DSD and Tenergy universal chargers may be identical.

Excellent light. Highly recommended.

This little light is powerful, and the batteries last. I use this light for navigating my boat before daylight going duck hunting. Went hunting about 12 or 15 times since I purchased the light a month ago and use it to air the dogs every night and still on the original batteries. It's small and I keep it in my hand in my hand warmer pocket, and pull it out of my pocket as I need it. No more bulky spot lights or flash lights to deal with. It's well worth the money and a bargain compared to other lights of this size and power. This mighty mite gets 5 stars.

After a month of everyday use with the TK11 I am pleased to recommend this flashlight to anyone. I own a remodeling company and put it through dust, mud, and water daily. The Lithium Ion battery has lasted me a month with everyday use, sometimes the flashlight is on for a half hour while I am working under a kitchen sink, or in a closet. The only thing I think could improve this flashlight for my needs is the ability to go from 225 to 20 lumens. 20 lumens would be nice for walking through the house at night with just enough light to see and read.

Outstanding flashlight, best I have ever owned. Battery last forever, I purchased the extended battery (one battery that replaced two), extra battery, and charger. The light has approx. 220 lumins and is extremly bright. You will love this light. There is an upgrade to this flashlight that cost a bit more and has 240 lumins (don't know if you can tell the difference, but if you love power, why not?) Enjoy
