This is my first machete, and I did a bit of reading before picking this one. I read a 22" blade was a bit unwieldy and tried this 18" blade...it has enough power to one shot soft wood branches 1" thick, and you can v-cut your way through a 3" or so round of soft wood with ease. I love the blade...it is straight with a slight curve to it at the end making it easy to sharpen. The blade thickens towards the end giving more power to your chop. The orange handle is easy to see if you are like me and drop it on the ground under a pile of brush. The handle feels solid and does not wobble. The blade as is comes with a cardboard sheath, so consider a sheath if that is your thing.

I have been using this to rapidly cut thin limbs off of fallen tree limbs into the 4' lengths the county requires to haul off for weekly pickup. The handguard lets me manuever the blade with confidence without slippage or knuckle banging, and I do not have to death grip it while using it because of that handle.

This blade is also very useful for dealing with stuff like unruly climbing roses. Yeah, I know, you are supposed to go out there and lovinging hand prune each one vine at a time, but my roses grow so fast that it is like some untamed kraken trying to swallow anything within reach. Maybe a longer blade would be better for standoff from the thorns, but I personally prefer the weight and precison of this, since control matters most to me out of fear of lopping my own thigh.
