Customer Review: Chimney Draft stopper...not! Summary: 1 Stars
Overall, I achieved better results (and less messy!) using a blanket covering the opening. Perhaps it's just my fireplace shape, but there is no significant improvement in draft stoppage. In the end, I'm still using the same old external cover to minimize downdrafts. The telescoping stick is too short for big fireplaces & the pillow fit is poor, plus it shifts if you have serious downdrafts. I will likely end up getting a new damper installed & the cost of this would have been better applied to that. Plus to remove it to actually make a fire is messy & a pain to get it back in place again. Save your money or get more creative with Home Depot materials & make one yourself.
Customer Review: Cut the drafts! Summary: 4 Stars
We have a wood-burning fireplace that was converted to gas-burning about 20 years ago and when we moved in I never trusted the thing. So we have the gas line turned off and just use the fireplace as "decoration" and a room focal point. But the draft coming in was substantial (damper cannot fully close for codes), even with glass fireplace doors and a draft snake, etc. Once our winter temps plummeted this season, my husband searched and found this product online...ordered it ASAP. Installation was pretty easy, but he did add some rags to the corners to make it a tighter plug. Our downstairs is much warmer now. And I have a theory that we'll have less of a humidity problem too, once summer comes, by keeping the outside air out. Finally a smart solution to this problem.
Customer Review: Disappointment over sealing Summary: 1 Stars
I had high hopes for the chimney sealer but after much time messing with it, it will not completely seal the chimney. It's a normal brick chimney and I cut the slot in the pillow to get it over the damper lever. When inflated, it doesn't seal the corners and the cold air comes in. I called the company and they won't take it back as I cut the slot in it. The directions could be better and more complete. All in all-too much for to little. Don't bother getting one of these. A sealed glass door for the fireplace costs more but will do the job much better.
Customer Review: Does not work as advertised Summary: 1 Stars
I would absolutely not recommend anybody buying this product. I have installed the product as directed and the freezing air from outside is still pouring down the chimney flue and into my living room through the fireplace doors, even with the damper closed. Very expensive for what it is, not to mention it does not work. There is no way this product can seal the chimney flue completely as there will always be spaces for cold air to bypass the product and flow into your room, especially if there is any type of breeze outside forcing the air down the chimney flue. I would say the only way to really stop cold air coming down the chimney is to install a rubber lined damper on top of the chimney flue. Somebody is making a lot of money from this product that promises a lot but delivers very little!
