Tools and Hardware Reviews of First Alert 2072F Anti-Theft Safe with Digital Lock, 1.00 Cubic Foot, GrayCustomer Review: Abysmal quality, not worth the money. Summary: 1 Stars
The key got stuck in the lock the very first time I tried to use it. The safe could not be locked and the key could not be removed or turned more than about a quarter of a turn. In the course of trying to remove the key, I eventually tore the head of the key clean off, leaving the broken half of the key in the lock cylinder and rendering my brand new safe unusable.
By removing 4 little screws from the inside I was easily able to remove the back cover and extract the entire lock cylinder and take it into a locksmith. The lock cylinder itself is so cheap and flimsy, the locksmith initially asked me if it came from a filing cabinet! I have no idea yet if they will be able to extract the key or if this will be seventy five dollars down the drain. Even if they do extract the key, I think the cylinder itself is probably defective and I don't really want it anyway. I can't wait to try and order a new one from Honeywell customer service...
Finally, if you just look at the keys themselves you will see that they are embarrassingly simple, having only a single tooth for the two normal keys or a double tooth pattern in the case of the master key. The entire key and lock system is clearly an afterthought which provides no additional security and should have been replaced with a lever which only turns after you have input the code. Please do yourself a favor: save time and money and go buy something else.
Customer Review: Bad Digital Lock Summary: 1 Stars
When we first got the safe it wouldn't use the key code. A month later it won't close with a key. I'm disappointed with Amazon.com customer service as they said they could not do anything about it.
Customer Review: Bad design ! Summary: 1 Stars
Day one... Open safe, add my own code, lock, punch in my code, green light goes on but I cant open door without a key ... no handle !! Then, after trying all 3 keys, one key got stuck in lock cylinder ! "SISCO" who handles warranty and service tried to tell me I turned the key the WRONG WAY ! Yes, two separate keys that turn different ways !! I am supposed to remember what key turns left and what key turns right ? HOW STUPID IS THAT ??? I got enough to remember ! That is why i bought this, so all i would need is a code.... NO. I need a code, then after months of not using, they expect me to remember whether i turn a key left or right so i dont screw up the cylinder !!! Look for something better !!! They are sending me a new cylinder but after opening the battery and lock console the wire leading to the battery terminal came off... due to a very small and bad solder job !! I am mad and i still have not even used it yet !!
Customer Review: Bargain Summary: 5 Stars
I looked and looked for a safe that was reasonable as I hated to spend the money on it. I found this one and was sceptical about quality, durability, etc. but thought what the heck and went for it. The safe is great! I'm so happy to have spent what I did and got double the space, digital keypad, durable for nearly half of what the others run. Great safe.
Customer Review: Cheap, weak defective safe Summary: 2 Stars
If you get a good working one then its a nice safe. Took me 3 to get a good one. First one the key stuck, the second one had a broken wire inside so i couldnt change the code. It is a cheap safe. But it is a safe and has room to keep stuff.
