Tools and Hardware Reviews of First Alert CO400 Battery Powered Carbon Monoxide AlarmCustomer Review: A must have! Summary: 5 Stars
We purchased 5 of these; one for each bedroom, the family room, and an elderly neighbor's bedroom. Install was painless. It does, however, need to be mounted on a wall, not a ceiling, so we chose a spot over each bedroom door.
Carbon Monoxide MIXES with the air. It does not stay low or high. You can't see it or smell it. That's why it's so deadly.
The piece of mind of having these installed is enormous. More people die of CO poisoning than from fire. If you don't have a CO detector, get one, two, etc. The price is right.
Customer Review: CO ALARM - everyone w/gas should have one Summary: 5 Stars
We tested it on the truck's exhaust and it went off at about 60 ppm according to our digital CO Meter.
Which proves it works to Govenment Standards. This model does what it is supposed to do, the more expensive models just have more features that you probably will not notice on an everyday basis anyway.
This is the least expensive model we have seen that functions, so we hope at this price everyone should have one in their home and garage.
Please replace batteries regularly......
Customer Review: CO Aid Summary: 4 Stars
When it has came down to protection in our homes, aside froom burglary protection, we definitely need a carbon monoxide alarm in our homes. It has became a must have for security and prevention from damages. First Alert does know how to make good ones, and their CO400 carbon monoxide alarm is definitely a great buy. It is simple to install, and convient to place on the wall. All it takes is a few AA batteries to install, and works nicely for anywhere in the home. There are very few alarms that are worth their effort, and First Alert knows how to make some good ones. I absolutely recommend this for your home is you are looking for a replacement Carbon Monoxide alarm for your home, and for the security for all your needs.

Customer Review: Carbon monoxide alarm Summary: 5 Stars
This was an added accessory to my smoke alarm at home. I have three of those--1 on each floor, so I needed to add a carbon monoxide alarm for added security. I hear it's one of the deadly killers in America and with a young son at home, I didn't wanna be without one. It's easy to install and its battery operated.
Customer Review: Cheap junk -- your family's safety is worth more. Summary: 1 Stars
I bought this along with the more expensive First Alert CO410 model to replace two Kidde-brand models which had died within two years of purchase. I figured a different brand had to be better, right?
No.
I put in fresh batteries, and this one started making a squealing noise, somewhere between a proper alarm and a sick baby. Something was clearly not right, and no amount of pushing buttons or changing batteries would help.
The other more expensive model was no better -- its fancy LCD panel displayed random meaningless lines rather than letters or numbers (similar to the way the Kidde models had failed, in fact), and similarly refused to be reset to a sane state.
I don't know about you, but that's all the chances I'm willing to give First Alert. If the two I got were so broken out of the box, how can I possibly trust any replacement?
So I don't know what I'm going to get, but it won't be from either First Alert or Kidde.
