We bought this unit because of its dual alarms (photoelectric and ionization) which detect the two fire types: smoldering and flaming. It was installed on the second floor at the top of the stairs, and was sometimes oversensitive and went off during cooking in the first-floor kitchen. Also, we had to frequently replace the 9 volt battery - about every 3 months.Customer Review: Big Mistake

Do you think the fact that you can test this sensor with any remote control is a good idea? ONLY if you don't have any TV's in your house! I've set these off by accident so many times, early and late hours, I've moved them away from the TV so I don't point the remote at them. I've taped over the in-fared receiver on the smoke detector. Nothing works completely. DO NOT buy this product if you use a remote control of any kind!!Customer Review: Combination photo/ion a MUST have

I am a career Firefighter/Paramedic and having a combination Photoelectric/Ionization smoke detector is a MUST have. Why ? Most fires that kill people are smoldering fires in which the SMOKE, not the fire, kills you while sleeping. Colorless, odorless carbon monoxide can quickly overcome you and knock you unconscious. By the time the flames come at you, you are pretty much already dead. Regular cheap ionization detectors only detect flaming fire. Photoelectric detects the SMOKE...which is the real culprit. Having a combination detector such as this First Alert model is PRICELESS. Stay safe people !Customer Review: Defective

This product arrived defective. The company told me it might be the battery that was included although it was a new Duracell. They sent me 2 new batteries. The product is still NG. They have told me that they will send a new one. I'm waiting for it. The hassle is definitely not worth it!!!Customer Review: Defective

I'm preparing to dispose of my 4th smoke alarm this year. The First Alert SA302 is unreliable. False alarms are common, and I'm tired od waking in the middle of the night. I'll never buy another First Alert product.
