They install easily with a ceiling plate and two screws. The unit then twists onto the place with a small turn. The battery "pops" out for easy replacement even if you don't remove it from the ceiling.Customer Review: Excellent value for price

This appears to be an excellent value for the price. The one it replaced went off all the time, situated in kitchen. This can, indeed, distinguish between real and kitchen smoke.
