Tools and Hardware Reviews of First Alert SA302CN Double Sensor Battery-Powered Smoke and Fire AlarmCustomer Review: Great detector, too sensitive Summary: 2 Stars
As far as the alarm goes, it is great. But, the remote sensor function is too sensitive. It was mounted approximately 10 feet off the floor in a gabled ceiling room. When using the Dish remote, it would be parallel with the detector, or even slightly behind it, but it would still set the alarm off. And, it would even go off with the power button, not only the volume and channel buttons as designed. If they could make it so you have to point directly at it, this would be perfect.
Customer Review: Great fire alarm Summary: 5 Stars
These 2 fire alarms are great. Easy to load batteries - my pet peeve with older ones.
My local fire department installed them for free.
Customer Review: Great product Summary: 5 Stars
This alarm works great. Easy to install. Has a battery door that makes battery change simple. You don't have to take the unit off the wall. Even has a pen to lock the battery door if you don't want anyone removing the battery. Some have complained about false alarms and problems with their TV remote setting off the test mode. I have had no such problems. Never had a false alarm. My unit is down the hall about 10 feet from the living room and the remote has never set it off. That might not be the case if you use it in the same room as the TV. This is probably the best dual sensor alarm available for the money. If you want the most protection, get a dual sensor.
Customer Review: Great smoke alarm! Summary: 5 Stars
This smoke alarm was a great addition to the carbon monoxide/smoke detector that I also purchased. They work great and I received them promptly!!
Customer Review: Great smoke alarm, but a little buggy Summary: 4 Stars
I purchased 2 of these a few months ago and installed them on separate floors of the house -- they seem to work great, all the reviews point to this model, and they do look great and install easily. The remote options for testing and silencing false alarms is also great.
The only drawback I've found is that very occasionally, turning the lights on (especially when it is dark and no ambient light is available) will set them off for at least 2-3 alarms. I don't know if it is because we have CFL bulbs (the kind that turn on quickly) in the hallways used for both alarms, but sometimes if you turn the lights on at night you get a very unexpected jolt from the piercing alarm. It's not the worst thing in the world, and shows it is working, but I suspect it's the photoelectric sensor portion (that most other smoke alarms leave out) that causes the false alarm.
Overall, though, a great alarm. Highly recommended!
