I received this as a gift for Christmas last year and have gotten a lot of use out of it this summer. Its light, well balanced and it stays sharp along with being easy to keep sharp. The handle seems indestructible.Customer Review: Nice hatchet

This hatchet is sharp. No question. It's balanced well and nicely engineered and crafted. I am using it to split kindling which it does superbly. It is a good weight for light duty splitting. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is the plastic handle is slippery, especially with any glove material that tends to get slippery with cold and ice...nylon, fleece etc. I suspect I can find a way to solve that on my own but I am a little surprised, given the quality of design and engineering, that wasn't taken into account in the first place.Customer Review: Ok, but not for splitting hardwood

I agree with most that this is a decent hatchet, light handle and the blade could be harder. It certainly doesn't have the heft or leverage to really split hardwood though. It is handy if you need to notch wood, or cut small limbs off a tree, but keep it away from anything that can dull the blade.Customer Review: Quality product
