Tools and Hardware Reviews of Fiskars 7850 X7 14-Inch Hatchet

Customer Review: Surprisingly great every time I use it.
Summary: 5 Stars

This hatchet is a great. I have had it for over 18 months and every time I use it it keeps amazing me. The balance is great and it resharpens well. The sharp edge cuts through wood with ease. I highly recommend it.

Customer Review: Tops
Summary: 5 Stars

I haven't gotten mine yet but my friend has one that I've used several times and it's the best hatchet I've ever seen, so I'm getting one from Amazon instead of stealing his. My ethics should be a shining example to everyone.

*Later* The handle gets slippery in winter and after a couple slips I wrapped it with athletic tape, 1/4" cord-spiral wound with gaps about 3/4 finger width, and another two, tight layers of athletic tape and a layer of self-fusing butyl-rubber tape. And I cut the top handle off the case to save space in my pack. Holds its edge very well; which is a good reason to improve the grip; and I still think it's the best you can get. *Laterer* Caught up to a buddy wacking an aspen that fell across the trail at waist level with his stubby hatchet. I went to work on the other side and soon had him beat and lent him my fiskar to finish up. Stubby hatchets are stoopid.

Customer Review: When other reviews said the blade was soft, I never guessed...
Summary: 1 Stars

With much anticipation, I finally received this hatchet just days before leaving to go on a short three day camping trip. I thought that I had packed everything that I had needed, but I was short an electric grinding wheel to sharpen the blade. The first few strikes split kindling with ease. Nothing too surprising, the wood that I was using was quite well aged. Unfortunately, after only a few cuts I started noticing two things. One, the plastic that was wrapped around the blade had started collecting shards of wood that had been driven up under it and had begun to start small cracks. Two, the blade started to get noticeable nicks. Closer examination revealed that they were not just chips, rather they were notches formed by the blade literally folding backwards on itself. as far as 1/16th of an inch. Naturally this quickly got much worse as the work continued until, even before the first fire, the hatchet preformed no better then a hatchet one might have purchased at a discount store. (Maybe even worse) I am so disappointed with this, I haven't even gotten the desire to return it. I had really expected so much more and to not even get a product that was mediocre was disheartening at the very least.

Customer Review: Work made Fun? Throw away your gym membership!
Summary: 5 Stars

What a great axe! I had to split about 4 cords of wood so I was going to rent a log splitter to get the job done quickly when I came across this axe. I felt like Paul Bunyan spliting logs in one fell swoop. I was already in shape but using this axe worked out my core better than any ab machine at the gym. My whole body strengh increased after using this axe to cut wood an hour at a time.
Buy this axe and get the sharpener that goes with it. Keep it in shape and it'll keep you in shape.

Customer Review: Works for occasional fir branch clearing; I like it.
Summary: 5 Stars

Works for me. For occasional use in clearing fir branch drops on our forested lot. Sharp blade with a nice balance.
