Tools and Hardware Reviews of Flambeau 6533ME Mailbox Red Barn With Black Roof, 21-Inch by 12-Inch by 11-3/4-InchCustomer Review: Flambeau forgot to test it! Summary: 3 Stars
I hate companies that don't test a product. And they obviously didn't test it. How could anyone in good conscience put this out?
I've had my Flambeau T-1003 Barn Mailbox up for a couple weeks now. I noticed immediately that the latch was a problem, as stated in all the reviews. I was either gonna install a pneumatic blasting device to open the door for the mailman, or hire Ox from down the road to stand next to the mailbox when the mailman arrives everyday.
Instead, I adjusted mine by filing down the little do-hickey on the door that goes in to the wha-cha-ma-callit. It works pretty good now, but the mailman had to learn all over again how to close a mailbox. It takes a pretty postive thump to get the door to close all the way. And, if he doesn't thump it, it falls back down
Also, I don't believe the review that says it keeps the stuff instead nice and dry. When it rains, my mailbox gets a few drops of water in it. Another sign they obviously didn't test this thing out.
Another thing that's a little gay is the flag. When you raise it up, you can push it down a tad, and it locks up. But if someone doesn't know this, they will just push on it to put it back down, and possibly break it. When I put the flag up, I don't bother putting it into the locked position. It stays up just fine. Just another sign that they didn't bother testing this thing.
Overall, I like the mailbox. Don't get me wrong. The wet problem isn't that serious, and the latch thing isn't insurmountable. I think the cute factor and the basic construction outweighs everything else.
The mailbox is a litte expensive when you consider everything. I have some bird feeders (North States out of Minnesota, tests their stuff with a lot of well thought out design touches) made of the same plastic, same look and basic design, and the mailbox costs about twice as much as I paid for them. I expect the color on the mailbox to hold as well as it has on my North States birdfeeders. Time will tell.

Is it a barn or a mailbox? It's both! Get this for your insane mother in law
Customer Review: Old MacDonald had a mailbox, E-I-E-I--Oh! Summary: 4 Stars
With this rustic Rural Barn Mailbox, you'll be the envy of all your redneck neighbors...but your letter carrier may complain of sore fingers. The knob you use to open the box has some sharp edges around it, and the plastic latch on the roof holds the barn door closed so securely that you really have to tug hard to access your mail. I used an exacto knife to shave an extremely miniscule bit of plastic off of the tab on the door, and that has helped a little. Of course, I don't want to take too much off for fear of fixing it so the door won't stay closed at all.
Aside from the door issue, the Flambeau Barn Mailbox is perfect. It's not the loud, fire engine red you see in the internet images; it's actually a more subdued brick red. It's ruggedly constructed and the surface is intricately molded to look like old wooden boards and shingles. It measures approximately 10 inches wide, by 11 and a half inches high, by 20 inches long. It has four holes in the bottom for mounting, but it does NOT come with the necessary #10 1-inch screws...or the short little screwdriver you'll need to work inside the box.
So, if you're tired of that plain old black mailbox, you might want to try this Flambeautiful red barn for a change. Just remember to open and close the door with extreme caution.
Customer Review: Red Barn Mailbox Summary: 1 Stars
The customer service and shipping from this company were excellent!
I guess I didn't believe the other reviews and thought I would get one of the "good" ones. I was so disappointed because you need a crobar and leather gloves to get the door open. The knob has very sharp points and the door is almost impossible to open. I was going to try to fix it but I don't think the door fits properly and the latch isn't fixable. I'm sorry I had to return it because I don't think the mailman could get it open.

My husband wanted this mailbox because of the roof line on it is true to a barn roof. The color is good but the latch has some troubles staying closed. Gail
