I'm an eletrical engineer who does eletrican work on the side. For the day to day eletrican this is a good tool. For people who are working with anything else, i'd shell out a bit more and get a diffrent product.
cons:
There is no range setting on this tool, which proves to be useful.
Also the tool needs to be touching the wire to detect any current.
pros:
Good battery life.
Durable, dropped it off a 4th story and it works fine.

Since I work for a company that uses Fluke Network Equipment, I immediately figure this product will do exactly what I want it to do but, be more expensive then other products. I was wrong, the price was good and worth it, I purchased a different product (later returned to buy this one) and it worked but, not as good as this one. Even though this is a non-contact tester, you still need to touch a wire to tell it's hot but, it tells you which is the hot wire compared to other testers that just go crazy when you get close to something hot. This is helpful in home improvement tasks with old wiring.
Great Product, will recommend to others.

This is a good tool to make a quick test through the insulation of an electrified wire. It is also good to locate an open in the wiring. If it shows there is voltage, you can count on it but do not be convinced that there is no voltage just because it doesn't indicate that there is. Always be cautious and make a final check using a voltmeter. 240 vac lines do not show any voltage present because the opposing emf fields cancel each other out.
I would purchase this tool again.

Great for residential, commercial or industrial. I bought this for my job in commercial/industustrial environment. I ve dropped it off ladder, water and still works. No problems. High quality cheaper than retail.
