Tools and Hardware Reviews of Frigidaire 50-Pint Dehumidifier, FAD504TDD

Customer Review: Best dehumidifier
Summary: 5 Stars

First time buyer for a dehumidifier. Decided on a frigidaire since Lowes and Sears carry that brand, and if i needed parts, I'm pretty sure they should have it. Amazon was so much cheaper and FREE SHIPPING...that made it even better. I read other reviews and decided to get a frigidaire. It seems to be working really good and boy does it pull the moisture out. Thinking to getting another one...probably the 70qt.

Customer Review: Best dehumidifier I have owned
Summary: 5 Stars

I have had this dehumidifier (Frigidaire FAD504TDD 50-Pint Dehumidifier, White) for 2 months now and it is working well. I have used it both with and without the hose connection and it works great either way. I have had no trouble removing the bucket to empty it and the handle is nice. It is quieter than the ones I have owned in the past and it also only puts out slightly warm air. (Some dehumidifiers I have had in the past really heat up the room. Not what you want in the summer which is when I use it.) I like that it gives a digital reading for the humidity level and that it has a light to remind you to clean the filter every 2 weeks, a job that I have neglected in the past, but this is easily done on this machine.

My only complaint is that when using the bucket, black stuff (mold?) starts growing in the bottom of the bucket and you have to unscrew the bucket cover to get in there to clean it out. The bucket has lots of "ins and outs" so I bought a bottle brush to get in all the nooks.

Customer Review: Best dehumidifier I have so far
Summary: 4 Stars

I use this unit in my basement and use a garden hose to connect the unit to an external water pump shared with my AC/heat pump. Connecting this external drain hose is a bit tricky. The bucket initially still kept getting full with the hose connected. You cannot easily see the water leakage because the water volume is very low (in drops at a time) and is not under pressure (It simply uses gravity), and the leaked water simply returns back into the unit's build-in water bucket. I finally decided to add a second brand new rubber washer at the connection point, and this fixed the problem. The water bucket now stays empty all the time. I only check it once a week instead of daily now.
I think the unit is well designed for a couple of reasons. First the external host connection point is near the middle of the unit (height-wise) instead of at the bottom of the water bucket. This means if your external water pump is low enough, you don't really need to raise this dehumidifier to use the external drain hose feature. The second reason is as I have stated before, leakage from the external hose connection simply returns back into the water bucket.
I live in a mid-sized colonial house with a partially finished full basement (no basement space under the garage). This unit is able to keep the humidity at 55% even with the fan set at the LOW level. Of course I had to use the HIGH fan level to bring the humidity level from 80%+ to 55% during the first few days of usage. I checked the water bucket once a day at that time - the external drain hose was not yet connected, and the bucket was full every time. I probably should have bought the 70-pint model instead of this 50-pint model, but decided to go with this 50-pint model because it has a lot more user reviews. I have used this unit for almost two month now, from late spring into early summer, and am very happy with it. I hope it can last at least a few years before I have to find a new one again. The 4-star instead of 5 rating is due to the higher than expected fan noise.

Customer Review: Best of the Dehumidifiers purchased over the years!
Summary: 5 Stars

no humidifier is quiet but this one is better than any owned previously. I've had some where attaching the hose was difficult or required a unique connection; not here. A standard garden hose worked just fine. I'd definately by this unit again.

Customer Review: Better than Maytag
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a quality dehumidifier with QUIET operation, easy to operate, and is of better quality than the Maytag dehumidifier it is replacing.
