Customer Review: A Good Dehumidifier, But ....

I am reasonable well satisfied with this product. It arrived quickly and works much better than my 10+ year old one. It's pleasing in appearance and is reasonable quiet. But before purchasing any small dehumidifier, one needs to have some idea of what they will and will not do. First the digital relative humidity (RH) readout is misleading and apparently not very accurate. It is *not* reading the room RH, but the RH somewhere inside the machine. If the unit is stopped, say because of a full pan, the RH reading very shortly jumps up 20 points or so. It will drop back very shortly after the machine starts again. Because of this fact the machine is subject to what I call "false starts". Ofter when the machine has cut off when it has reached the RH setting, the fan will shortly restart and shut down after a few seconds. It made do this 3 or 4 times, before staying on. Fortunately the compressor does not start-up on these false starts.
The device will probable keep a small isolated room relatively dry, but it will not, nor will others of its type, have much effect on a room connected to a central AC system. Even running continuously and removing all the moisture it's designed to remove, it will have little effect on the overall RH of such a room.
Note, the designation "70 pint" does not mean that the unit will collect 70 pints before the pan has to be emptied. The "70 pint" designation is a theoretical measure of the rate at which the unit will remove moisture. The pan on "70 pint" units will likely have to be emptied more often than a unit with a lower rating. It fills up the pan more quickly.

We received this product roughly a week ago, and we really like it. It's attractive, given what it is, and very effective. It's in our basement, so we don't hear it, but even when I go to check on it the sound is not unpleasant in any way--like the whirring of a fan with the volume turned up just a notch. This is our first need for a dehumidifier in 25 yrs after moving to a new home with a basement. The Frigidaire 70 pint looks like a good value. It fired right up and is working well, I'm using it with a hose draining into a floor drain. I would rate it quite noisy for use in a living area at either the low or high fan speed. Durability is tbd - these are mfg in China - but the initial quality looks fine. If there are any issues I'll come back and update.
Update: made it through the first season without any issues, and it's been a wet summer
Customer Review: A great dehumidifier but it is louder than I expected

This unit is well built and really does a great job. It reduces the humidity in my bathroom from 70 percent down to 35 percent within 15 to 20 minutes after taking a shower. It has eliminated the fogging of my mirrors and condensation buildup on my windows even on cold days. The casters make it easy to roll around from room to room. The digital display displays the humidity in 5 percent increments. The built-in timer is handy for running the unit unattended for a preset amount of time. You can also set the unit to cycle off once a preset humidity level has been achieved. However, I have noticed that when operated in this mode the unit seems to cycle too frequently (there is not enough delay between the preset shut off and restarting setpoints). I think it would cause excessive wear to cycle the unit that frequently. My only complaint is that this unit is LOUD! I was really surprised at how much noise it made. We use the unit for spot dehumidification and turn it off at bedtime. If you are looking for a dehumidifer with a high capacity this unit would be a good choice especially for the money. I just would not plan on sleeping in the room with it while it is running.Customer Review: Amazon has a great return policy!

We bought this item because of the great reviews on Amazon. We signed up for a trial membership to Amazon Prime so we could get it quickly. It arrived quickly just as promised. It powered up and sounded just fine, but didn't work right ... the water that it collected drained out the back of the dehumidifier instead of into the collection bucket. Even when the hose was hooked up to it, water did not drain through the hose. We were going to try to follow up with the warranty (we would have had to take it to a local repair shop that serviced Frigidaire warranties), but I found out that Amazon would let us return it. Since it did not work when we received it, Amazon even paid return shipping. The transaction process went very smoothly. I believe that we unfortunately just got a lemon. We would have exchanged with Amazon, but Amazon was out of stock when we returned it, so we bought the Lowe's version of this model instead [...]). The Lowe's version has been working very well now for about a month.
