Customer Review: Defective unit

Plugged the unit in and got 2 bucketfuls of water before the compressor went out. I'm assuming that I simply got a faulty unit, but am not willing to risk taking another chance. Literally had the unit for about 10 days.
As an aside, the bucket cannot possibly be 70 pints. While I didn't own the unit long enough to test the bucket capacity, both my wife and I looked at each other (after years of having other dehumidifiers)and wondered where the 70 pint bucket was. the bucket looks like it holds no more than 45 pints! Again, just an observation and not tested truth.

I bought this product through Amazon, sold by TheFactoryDepot. I unpacked it and used it for a few days and realized it was defective. The humidistat doesn't work, so the unit runs fine with set to be on constantly, but when a humidity level is set, the unit runs for 10 seconds, then shuts off for a few seconds, then runs for a few seconds again. I called TheFactoryDepot. They told me to contact Fridigdaire for a replacement. I called Frigidaire and they told me the seller had to replace the unit. The seller offered to refund my purchase price if I shipped the defective unit back to them AT MY OWN COST, and shipping has to be traceable. Shipping this unit back via UPS will cost $75 or more, depending on how much help I need in repacking it. It is big and heavy and good luck getting it back into its original carton! I filed a complaint with Amazon and they said their policy is buyers have to pay return shipping. Do yourself a favor: Don't buy anything big and heavy from Amazon. If it's defective, it's going to cost you a lot of money to send it back! Go to Lowe's or Home Depot, where you can take it back to the store yourself. Buy local! Amazon is great for CDs ... don't buy a big TV set or anything that's costly to ship. Oh, did I mention I also pay for Amazon Prime shipping? I replaced a 40 pint unit with this one and I am glad I upgraded. This unit has worked nicely after the initial full power dry out period and it has been very wet here this summer. I am using it in a 600 square foot basement. It runs for a minute or so every fifteen minutes. It would look fine in a finished basement. Set up was easy. A drainage hose is easily added. The filter cleaning notification is a nice touch. My only complaint is it is a bit loud even on the low fan setting. Sleeping near it might be a problem. This unit is a big step up from my prior unit - the electronic controls and humidity gauge are very nice. The unit is simple to operate and works great. Removal of the container was easy but has to be balanced until you pick it up with the handle. I did not hook it up for constant draining yet but plan to do that next. The fan circulates very good and the unit takes water out of the air very quickly. The noise level is a little loud but it is only the fan that you hear. As long as it is in a separate room it is no problem but would be noisy in a living area. I am pleased with the unit.Customer Review: Dehumidifier

I have had this just over a week and it has performed flawlessly. It is quiet, water container is easy to empty, it has reduced a damp lower level to 50% humidity in just two days. I can not vouch for its longevity but so far so good.
