Tools and Hardware Reviews of Frigidaire Window-Mounted Slider/Casement Air Conditioner, 12,000 BTUs, FAK124R1V

Customer Review: Frigidaire FAK124R1V 12,000-BTU Slider/Casement Air Conditioner
Summary: 5 Stars

Received this 12,000 BTU unit just over a week ago it took just under an hour to install the unit in our living room. Put the unit on 68 degrees to cool the house down, I have this unit and one other which is a 9000 btu and within an hour the house was cooled down to being very comfortable, since then the I set the unit on 70 and the unit is much quieter that the 9000 btu unit which by the way is old.

Here I am one week later and the unit is working perfectly, the remote also works well. The apartment we have here is about 1200 square feet of cooling area and we are very please with this new unit.

Customer Review: Good but not Great
Summary: 3 Stars

The good stuff; This unit does do a good job of cooling a large room as advertised. The controls work OK.

The bad stuff; The packaging is flimsy. The bottom of the carton fell apart when we tried to pick it up (wouldn't it be in Frigidare's best interest to make a sturdy shipping carton?). The bottom corners of the casing (all 4) were dented from rough treatment. And be warned, if you are installing this unit into a casement window you had better have the following opening dimentions - width between 15 1/2" and 16 1/4" (not much room for error here), height no taller than 39 7/16", or you better have some skills because you are going to need them to make it fit. My window opening was 22" and the height was 43" so I had to buy a piece of 3/4" plywood (at $64) and make an insert for the window opening that the unit would fit into. It would have been better if my window was a sliding unit, the width wouldn't have mattered but the height would still have been a problem.

Customer Review: Great AC for apartments with slider windows! =^.^=
Summary: 5 Stars

This is my second air conditioner of this type from Frigidaire. The other one I've had for two years and is the 8000btu model.

Both have been trouble free and very easy on the electric bill. The energy star features really seem to make a big difference and the remote is a definite plus.

These units are fairly easy to install and a great deal with the free shipping. =^.^=

I highly recommend these and have told all my friends about them when they ask me about my air conditioners.

Customer Review: Great Product

Product, price and delivery service was great, so good I bought a second unit a week later

Customer Review: My reservations about ordering online are confirmed...
Summary: 4 Stars

We have a 14 x 30 room with two big picture windows that faces the sun. It gets hotter in the room than outside because of the greenhouse effect. We ordered this unit and got promotional free two day shipping. It actually arrived a day earlier than they said it would. The instructions were hard to understand, but if you've ever installed an air conditioner, then it'll be easy. The mounting bracket and space filler were easy to install. This unit is cooling our room nicely.

I was uneasy about ordering online because of all the damaged product complaints, but did it anyways. The unit arrived and we could immediately tell it had been dropped on its corner. The metal on the corner is buckled and the front faceplate is cracked. The unit is working properly so far though. I'm in the process of contacting the seller to discuss another faceplate. I'll cross my fingers.

I would recommend this unit, but am still weary of having things delivered. My feelings were justified with this order.

UPDATE: 20 minutes later I Googled Amazon.com, LLC Customer Service and got their number. (18002017575) Told them about damage and was given 3 choices: 1) return for refund 2) return for exchange 3) accept 15% discount ($70.50). The unit works and the idea of taking it out and packing up turns me off, so we'll take the discount and order a replacement faceplate at the local appliance store.

Customer service acted as if it has happened before and was pretty straight forward with the three choices, so my anxiety about having things delivered is even more confirmed.
