Tools and Hardware Reviews of Fruit Picker, FRUIT PICKER BASKETCustomer Review: Works in dense trees, with some adaptation. Summary: 5 Stars
This picker can pick fruit from dense trees with some adjustments. It has seven prongs.
Take pliers and twist two adjoining prongs until they meet, and just slightly overlap to avoid tangles. Then twist another pair together, and then another pair.
In total, you will have three pairs, and one single prong. The twisted and joined pairs, do not tangle in the tree's branches as much, but can still pull the fruit off. And the single one works with them with little problems.
We have picked apples from very dense branches with this adjustment, and it has worked well.
Customer Review: You'll Be SICK of Apples! Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased 2 of these baskets in the Fall of 2008 (one for my father as a Christmas present). Once I received it, I bought two, 1" diameter, six foot, wooden rods from Home Depot ($7.79 in Canada). I affixed these to the baskets in seconds with just a Philips screwdriver.
Several months before, I was able to locate several varieties of apple trees on common property in my area and I always had a mind to pick the apples. The trouble is, like most people, I didn't want to tie my heavy ladder to my car and go picking. With this basket affixed to a 6 foot rod, I'd just toss it into my car and go.
When I came upon the site, many of the apples in the lower branches were already picked away by people visiting the recreation centre nearby, but the best apples were higher in the tree. These were the ripest and largest of all.
After about an hour, I had picked approximately four bags of apples or about 60lbs. worth. At $0.98/lb. (avg. price in Canada), this little basket and rod paid for themselves 3x over and I have a LOT more organic apples to pick (among other things!).
I took all of the apples home and spent a couple of hours peeling and cutting them into freezer bags. We plan to use the frozen slices all year for apple pies, apple crisps and apple bran muffins, all which are fairly expensive at the stores and not organic.
Needless to say, the basket works great and is of superb strength and build quality. I am indeed very happy and would recommend it wholeheartedly.

works well. However I put soft plastic tubing over the tips to prevent damage to apples.

The ad for this picker was very deceiving. It was right besdide a picture of it full length with handle which was $9.95 and this one, with the EXACT same description, was $3.57. It was quite a shock when it arrived with no handle; what the devil are you supposed to do with a picker that you want to pick HIGH UP fruit off of trees with, with no handle? Nowhere did I see "you'll have to provide your own handle for this one." It's false advertisement but I guess at the price you figure people won't do anything about it,not worth the effort, and you're right, who would take you to court for $3.57? So give yourself and the company that did this a big fat ZERO on this one.

Very easy to use, can pick several apples at a time, the only negative is it gets tangled up in branches.
