These CFL bulbs are great for floor lamps where you can use a lamp shade of your choice to tone down the harsher light. However, even without the shade, the light is much better than your typical flurescent tubes, so it's a thumbs up for me. Also, the 3 way light does work well! We love the light from this bulb. As with all of these energy efficient bulbs you need to wait a small amount of time for the true level of light to be achieved and that is the case here with each of the three levels of light. You do not need to wait for each level and can easily just switch to the highest level immediately and then it comes up to the brightest for that level in just a quick amount of time. I'm so used to it now that I barely notice the warm up period but I definitely enjoy the brightness (just exactly as bright, or a little brighter, than our old 50/100/150 bulbs) and I will be enjoying the benefits of a lower electricity bill for years to come. Highly recommend! We are back now to buy a couple more so all the three way lamps in the house will be energy efficient.
P.S., as far as the size of the bulb, yes, these energy efficient bulbs are all slightly larger than normal bulbs. However, I have not replaced any lamp harps and have had not trouble fitting the bulbs into our lamps.

This is a great product. I wasn't sure I would like it so I puschased only the two bulb package and we are completely satisfied. If they go on sale again I will purchase more. I would recommend it to anyone who wants a 3-way moneysaver. I hope Amazon has more soon. Everything I have purchased from Amazon has been great. I trust Amazon products.

I ordered this bulb after reading serenity-now's review thinking it would still work for me. Unfortunately, (s)he is correct and these bulbs are too tall for my standing lamp. There is a very noticeable portion of the bulb that sticks well above the lamp. I'll continue using the bulb but those purchasing should be aware.
The color temperature and quality of the bulb are good regardless of the unusual length.

I really like the natural light you get from these bulbs. I hate the fact that they are so large they don't fit in my lamps. I hesitate to buy a larger harp because that would probably mean that I would have to invest in longer shades. By that time I would have spent the money I saved in energy costs. I was able to use one bulb in my Torch lamp, but disappointed I couldn't use them in my other reading lamps. GE, please make a smaller 3-way that fits in the lamps. Then I would rate a 5.
