Tools and Hardware Reviews of GE 48688 60-Watt A19 Reveal Bulbs, 4-Pack

Customer Review: Lots of Hype, Little Difference
Summary: 3 Stars

According to the sales propoganda, regular light bulbs are yellow-ish and casts a pall in your room. This guy has neodynium in the glass, and therefore has a slight bluish tinge. In my home, there was virtually no difference between this 'natural' bulb and a standard, cheapie light bulb. We swapped out this light bulb with a regular one several times, yet the difference in color was slight. With this bulb, my living room still has a noticeable, but less intense, yellow tinge. To be fair, though, my walls are all off-white without a lot of color. I could not accurately judge this bulb's effect on color, but I know that some make-up mirrors and dressing mirrors use this type of bulb for accurate color rendition (ordinary fluorescent lights changes the color of things).

Customer Review: Love the Light
Summary: 5 Stars

If you need a 60-watt incandescent bulb, I wholeheartedly recommend these Reveal bulbs. The light the produce is gentle and quit pleasing to the eye.

Customer Review: These bulbs crack and fall out of the ceiling
Summary: 1 Stars

I'd really gives these "Zero" stars if possible becauses these bulbs are dangerous.

I have found a significant difference in light and enjoyed the warmth created by the light spectrum. However, 6 bulbs have come crashing down. It was priceless, as he gazed up at the recessed light fixture with that "you're crazy, light bulbs don't fall unless they've come unscrewed and you just need to screw them in tighter" look the glass bulb fell, hit him and then broke into pieces. My point was made without any further discussion.

My house is over 10 years old and these are the first bulbs to ever crack and fall. Several others broke as we began to unscrew them. The first time it happened I thought it was the pack/batch (Home Depot purchase - they're known for cheapening the quality standards to get the lower price) and so I tried a pack from a different retailer. Same results.

Removing the metal piece from the socket without getting harmed added to the overall experience.

Customer Review: They are ok, but not enough to be worth switching out all the bulbs in my house.
Summary: 4 Stars

These bulbs appear a little whiter more like a halogen bulb, or about 3000k. Looking at different colored objects under these bulbs vs standard bulbs, colors are slightly brighter looking. Otherwise I don't seem to have a color preference for lightbulbs as I don't really care about such a small difference. I do just fine with standard bulbs. I do find they are dim and needed to get 75w to use in place of 60w. I got a pack at Wallyword for $2 just figured I'd try them out. I give them 4 stars just because they are lightbulbs and they make light as I expect, and I haven't had any early failures yet.

Customer Review: They work as advertised
Summary: 5 Stars

These bulbs do exactly what they are meant to do. On my ceiling fan/light, I have 2 ordinary soft whites and two Reveals. The difference is clear. The soft whites give everything an obvious yellow tint. The Reveal bulbs do not. More colors come out. My eyes are more relaxed.

I often spend hours at my home computer, so anything that reduces eye strain is welcomed. One issue that the previous rater mentioned is true - their light is somewhat dimmer than of the soft white bulb of same wattage. It does not feel different enough to require a 60W instead of 40W, or to require a 75W instead of 60W. I'm fine with the same Wattage as before.

btw, I previously used a similar bulb from Philips. It may have been called "Natural Spectrum". It performed in the same way.
