Tools and Hardware Reviews of GE AccessPoint 001413 KeySafe Original 2-Key Slimline Pushbutton Combination Key Box, WhiteCustomer Review: No nonsence KeySafe Summary: 4 Stars
This key safe is small and attractive. The combination works by choosing a selection of numbers, but the order of the number is surprisingly not important. I can imagine that it would be easier for a thief to break a window before getting the key out of this safe. It works great for having a spare key handy at all times.
Customer Review: Not for cold weather Summary: 1 Stars
This worked just fine until the weather gets below freezing (perhaps the worst time to get locked out). The mechanism freezes up and it no longer works, leaving you outside looking in.
Customer Review: Perfect Solution Summary: 5 Stars
I have bought several of these for myself and my family. They are sturdy, waterproof, it always works even if its -20 below up here in Wisconsin. Setting you combination takes less than a minute.
Customer Review: Safe, secure and convenient Summary: 5 Stars
The idea of this sounded great and has proven to be just that. I bought one for the house so I don't have to worry about locking myself out, one for our garden shed so I don't have to carry my keys with me when I want to work outside and one for my Mom who has recently locked herself out and wanted me to drive 2 hours to let her in. Never again. Setting a combination is a simple turn of the screw. If you can't remember your exact combination order, but you can remember all the numbers in your combination, that's okay. As long as you enter all the correct numbers, despite the order, it will unlock. I'm using the KeySafes daily and no longer have to panic when I close the door that locks behind me and realize I forgot my keys. It's so much more secure than a hide a key. I've seen weather covers for these at other sites, but tried to mount them so they weren't feeling the worst of the rain and didn't bother with the covers. I've yet to encounter any weather problems.
Customer Review: Secure storage for one or two keys Summary: 4 Stars
We've been using this key safe for a few months now and are quite pleased with the performance. We mounted it on the inside of our French doors to secure the inside key. We did not want anyone to break the window and get the key from the inside or, if they had already broken into our house, get a house key for a future return date.
Pros:
- very easy installation, just a few minutes
- securely mounts to our door
- sturdy construction of the box
- easy to (intentionally) unlock
Cons:
- flimsy buttons for the combination
- fiddly combination set mechanism
- must use combination to return key to storage position
- color is pretty utilitarian
- small internal storage for the size of the box
I don't find a problem, as an earlier reviewer did, of having the numbers without sequence, e.g. 1234 is same as 2431. That feature would add another layer of security, but correctly picking 4 out of 10 numbers is still a challenge. It would behoove you to make the number more challenging than 1234.
I gave it 4 stars because of the perception of a light weight keypad. I have some concerns about long term usage. Other than that, it is a sturdy little safe to store a few keys.
