Tools and Hardware Reviews of Garden Auger Bulb Planter for Soil and Earth Heavy Duty 2.00" Dia X 24'' LengthCustomer Review: Amazing! Summary: 5 Stars
I own 2 of the 2" heavy duty models. I originally purchased them to plant flowers for work. I one week to plant about 15,000 plants annuals in April. These are very rugged and hold up very well. I originally used my 14.4v Dewalt cordless drill to drive this auger. In loose soil, it can go for a long time between batteries. If the ground is hard, you will be changing batteries often. For home planting, a 14.4v drill should do fine. However a 18v cordless would be much better. I found many used for these augers. I recently bought a house and I discovered that all of my metal window wells were rusted through at ground level. In order to replace them, you have to dig them out. I dug the fist one out and it took a long time and a crap load of effort. I got the good idea to use this auger to help break op the soil. I whipped out my 1/2 inch Dewalt CORDED drill and attached the auger. Combining the super torque of a 1/2 inch corded drill with this auger makes a POWERFULL tool. I would plunge this auger into the ground around the old window well about 50 times. The ground would be completely broken up. I started to shovel the dirt and it was like shoveling loose fill dirt. I've also used this to loosen up dirt around bush stumps that I was removing. Buy one of these! They are worth their weight in gold!
Customer Review: Awesome Digging Tool Summary: 5 Stars
Works great! I found some rocks, and with a little ingenuity, used the drill to bore a couple of holes around, popped the 4-6" rocks right out. In this way was able to plant some gallon size plants in hard pan/clay. Over dig/bore with this to loosen and remove now loose dirt, fill with potting soil, and drop your new plant in with confidence. As far as a bulb planter, I dropped the single plants that come in a soft 6 pack, with such ease. My only regret is waiting so long to finally buy this gem. The unit has pretty beefy welds and I really doubt I'll ever break it. A 17lb digging bar barely sinks 2" into our soil unless soaked well in advance. What a relief to find this tool. 18V Milwaukee was doing the twisting.
Customer Review: Best Auger around Summary: 5 Stars
I spent the extra $ for this auger and am glad that I did it. My dirt if you call it that, is clay with some rock. I hooked my auger up to my electric drill with a variable clutch and it make short work of some real problem areas. The auger is tall enough that you don't have to bend down to drill holes which is great on the back. I originally got the auger for planting bulbs, but soon found that is was great for breaking up hard pan. It is much better and easier than swinging a pick axe. The auger works very well and is very heavy duty.
Customer Review: Durable and high quality Summary: 5 Stars
Great for bulbs and easy to use, after many holes it is still in great shape. Works well in a portable drill too.
Customer Review: Fast Shipping, Great Product Summary: 5 Stars
I dreaded doing yard work because I have clay and rocks for soil. This bit on my 18V drill made quick work of my hard soil. All I had to do is shovel out the loose dirt.
