Tools and Hardware Reviews of Gerber 05500 MP400 Compact Sport Multi-function Tool

Customer Review: Little Wizard!
Summary: 5 Stars

Just got one of these for Christmas. It gets 5 stars for now because: You really can access the pliers with a flick of the wrist, you've just got to keep it oiled which you should do anyway. It is very lightweight, going unnoticed on the belt. Phillips head is the closest I've seen to a #2 in a multi-tool. It may not be a true #2 but others I've seen/used are clearly #1's. I don't know if giver purchased it from Amazon, I hope so.

Customer Review: Must have for evey car glove box
Summary: 5 Stars

Bought this utility tool for my car glove box. It comes in very handy at many occasions when travelling. I've used the bottle opener, and utility knife at picnics. The screwdrivers (flat and phillips) come are very useful when a full toolbox isnt around. The holder is very functional too with a bui;t in belt loop to carry the knife with you on the go.

The only minor negative is that there the feel of the tools as you open them is not particularly smooth. It almost feels like there is sand in the joints, but it is a new tool and that isn't the case. Maybe this goes away with some use, but dont yet know. Otherwise, its a few tool to have.

Customer Review: My Everday Carry
Summary: 5 Stars

I've used a variety of multitools since I was a teenager, starting with Victorinox Swiss Army knives. And I've examined most of the multitools currently on the market. The Gerber Compact Sport 400 is the multitool I choose to carry on a daily basis. It has the most useful collection of tools for my needs.

I work as an electronics technician. One-handed opening of my tool is a necessity. With a quick flick of my wrist the pliers of this tool are ready for action. Also, the pliers are flat the last few millimeters of the pliers. This allows for a tweezer-like grip of labels, fine wires, and other small things. This is very important. The pliers of Gerber's competitors can't do this.

Also, the Fiskar scissors are sturdy, and the screwdrivers are usable. I recommend that you buy the adapter kit so 1/4" bits can be used. The combo edge knife is also serviceable, though I don't use it much. Did I mention that all the tools lock? Don't underestimate the value of this feature. I've seen a person require five sutures because the incorrectly used an unlocked Swiss Army Knife blade. Lastly, the nylon belt sheath rides comfortably on my belt.

Overall, it's great for light duty work, and is a great everyday carry.

Customer Review: New Blade design
Summary: 5 Stars

Wow, I lost my old Gerber and ordered a new one. The blade is much easier to open on the new one, even with gloves on. Thanks Gerber! Maybe I'll not lose this one! Just love the serrated blade as I deal with boxes a lot.

Customer Review: Not as good as they say
Summary: 3 Stars

The people writing these reviews are not realistic. More than likely, they probably have never used the better names in handtools/knives.

This knife is a bargain at $20, but I would not buy it. I have used mine for two weeks... here are the pros and cons:

Pros: Inexpensive, pouch, cut out grip holes, safety

Cons: Pliers useless, the slide mechanism gets stuck, you must take pliers out to use accessories

Go with a better name... you get what you pay for.
