I have owned many multi-tools and bought one of the first leatherman's when they came out. The Gerber beats them all. The one handed operation is great for whipping it out for a quick fix. You just have to get your hand positioned correctly to have the pliers slide out quickly, but it's a breeze once you get the hang of it. I've owned the same Gerber 05500 MP400 Compact Sport for several years now and use it EVERY day. When I worked as a carpenter, I kept it on my tool belt and used it as I would any other tool. I can't say enough about the durability and quality of this tool.

I have had one of these for several years, and I love it. However, this one I just received was a complete disappointment. The jaw had interference when closing it, at the wire cutter area. Also, it felt very gritty, like it was tossed around in fine dirt. I also think the case is too big - bigger than the one I currently have (and it's the same model). Unfortunately, I had to return it for a refund. Gerber, what happened to your quality?Customer Review: Serves an engineer well.

They're durable (the blade's still sharp 2 years later). It's very easy to handle and access all tools.The locking mechanism is the most obvious, safe, and easy to operate that I have seen on any multitool or utility knife. I've watched Leatherman owners futz with their tools for minutes while my gerber is at the ready in seconds. This thing has saved my arse many times, and I wouldn't leave home without it (if it weren't for the metal detectors and searches everywhere). But seriously, it's good in the lab and also whenever we're building a bad idea... the only thing I wish it had is reasonable wire strippers.Customer Review: Simply of the the best Multi-Tools ever!

I've had a number of multi-tools over the years & this is by far my favorite. I love the way Gerber deploys the pliers with a flick of the wrist, & the tools are far above average for a multi-tool, including the scissors which are the first I've ever found in a multi-tool that actually work well. While you can get more tools stuffed into a gadget, I don't think you could find a handier assortment, & the quality of all the tools are top-notch.
I hope Gerber never stops making this model, because it's simply the best of the best!!
