I was an Aerovac Medic for the US Air Force. I carried my Gerber with me as basic equipment. You don't have to peal open this tool, like a Leatherman. All you have to do is place it between your thumb and fore finger, flick your wrist, the pliars thrust out, and lock into place. It's great for one handed use. I used it many emergency situations. Great for cutting parachute cord, fixing medical equipment, cutting bandages, and eating MRE's. Fantastic Multi-use tool.

The Gerber Multi-Plier 600 Basic Fisherman with Sheath includes everything you need when out on the water in a pocket-sized package. Included in the tool are extra-long plier jaws with long gripping teeth, needle-nose pliers with small gripping teeth and precision-gripping flat tip, three sizes of fishing-line-splicing band crimpers, a bottle opener, a medium slot-head screwdriver combination tool, a carbide fish hook sharpening tool, a split-ring and slit-shot spreading wedge, a carbide double-cut file, a drop-point blade, a #2 Phillips screwdriver, and a retractable lanyard to ensure dropping the tool doesn't send it to the bottom of the lake. The multi-plier also features a one-handed plier opening for ease of use. No handle rotation or gyrations are necessary to open the multi-plier -- just a flick of the wrist slides the plier jaws into the locked and ready position.
