Don't waste your time reviewing other knives. The Prodigy will meet and pass all your expectations by far... Great weight, performance, looks and feel.

Customer Review: Decent survival knife Summary: 4 Stars
To start, this thing is made for work. I was waffling between this and the bigger LMF, but i decided on this because of the weight. Upon picking it upI haven't really been able to beat it up and give it a good run through, but the small wood-working i have tried came out really nice. It does however lack the necessary weight to really chop effectively, but in a survival situation i believe it could get the job done. The blade delivered to me is made of the Sandvick (sp?) stainless steel which i understand to be decent steel. From what I've learned it does not hold a fine edge very long. That is not to say it doesn't hold an effective edge. I have sharpened it once and it is perfect my camp uses. The handles is made of a molded composite that i have really come to like. It is not pretty, but functionality of it is hit right on. I have bigger hands and would have preferred a slightly thicker handle, however. The handle sticks well in wet conditions and seems to me that it will be a very durable product. The sheath is without a doubt the part Gerber saved money. The Nylon parts are quite honestly only sufficient for stowage in a bag in my opinion. I do NOT ever see myself strapping this particular sheath to my body. The other composite components of the sheath are however top notch. The sheath is definitely a head scratcher. I would have preferred to pay 10 more bucks and got another leg strap (because it only comes with one)and a replacement material for the nylon components. Overall, I would recommend this product to a friend who isn't looking for a specific job for this knife. It seems to be best used as a well-rounded emergency knife. It can absolutely be used for combat and has fulfilled my role of camp knife and hiking companion quite well.
Customer Review: Excellent knife....only wish it came in a non-serrated blade too! Summary: 4 Stars
The Gerber Prodigy is an all-around, excellent knife. From its full tang design to the thickness and heft of the blade, this knife will definitely hold up to years of use and abuse. I bought mine for use as a survival/self-defense knife. I really like the skull crusher/window breaker point on the bottom end of the knife's tang. The handle feels good and the balance is excellent for a large, fixed-blade knife. The sheath is also molle compatible. My only complaint is that the Prodigy is not available in a non-serrated version. I would absolutely recommend the Gerber Prodigy to anyone looking for a reasonably priced, survival combat knife!
Customer Review: Field test results: Success Summary: 5 Stars
I have owned this knife for nearly a month, and I was finally able to give it a proper field test. I spent a few days out in the woods and used the Prodigy for everything, from shelter building to firewood collecting to food preparation. It performed beautifully in all respects. I was able to cut 1-2" diameter wood easily in a short time, but its light weight and size made whittling easy as well. The knife came out of the case shaving sharp (tested on my now-patchy leg) and stayed sharp through most of the test. After many, many choppings, it was fast and easy to sharpen. I wasn't sure if I would like the serrated portion of the edge, but I found it extremely useful cutting paracord and fleshy plants. I found the handle very comfortable to handle for long periods of time. The "glass breaker," which I thought would have limited usefulness, was actually helpful in puncturing food cans and anything else that needed a good bashing. The sheath seems to get a lot of hate from reviewers, but for my purposes it works fine. It seems sturdy enough, and I particularly like that it doesn't need to be buckled secure the knife. Overall, I think this knife is very good in terms of durability and usefulness, and hard to beat at this price point.
Customer Review: Flawless Summary: 5 Stars
I am an avid hiker and camper, and this knife is perfect for my uses. If you are looking for a quality, rugged bush knife, you won't find a better one for the price.
