The saw is made of a semi-rigid steel blade that is very sharp and not too flexible for tough jobs. I sawed through a knot of hard maple; the saw teeth are large, sharp, and effective. The contoured handle is small for my large hand but still adequate for a good grip. It is also rubberized and weatherproof. The saw fits snugly into the hollow handle of the axe and the combo set is compact for easy carry into the field by a beltloop in the axe-head sheath.
