Customer Review: Better look at the Glock folding shovel instead

This is an OK shovel but it weighs too much for its size. Better to look at the Glock collapsable shovel, which is lighter, larger, and has a pretty decent saw concealed within the handle. When out backpacking, size is less important than weight and functionality, so I strap the Glock to the back of my pack and get a better tool for less weight. The Gerber tool now sits in my garage, unused.Customer Review: Better than nothing but too small to be tremendously useful

It did the job fine. Heat wasn't an issue as I was able to shovel hot coals around with it. What kept my review from being more favorable is the relative flimsyness of the handle (specifically the mechanism that allows it to extend). Another concern is that it is too short to have any real leverage. Like I said in the title, it's better than nothing, it's cheap and it's very compact so it may be worthwhile for you.Customer Review: Childhood memories

Nice sturdy compact shovel. Good quality memories as a child camping and digging pits for campfires and such. Abused this thing for a lot of years(15+) and gave it away with my parents camper trailer. Wish I still had it, now I have to buy another one for nieces soon to be fond memories of camping trips. It doesn't have sharp edge, but the more you use it the sharper it becomes as it wears down slightly. This is a pretty good collapsing shovel. The handle has a telescoping joint, so it fold down into a very compact shape. The handle is made out of the standard fiberglass-nylon plastic material that Gerber is fond of using. It isn't very big when expanded out, but what do you expect for a fairly durable folding shovel.Customer Review: Decent quality, maybe not useful for everyone.

This puppy is built solid and will dig up some dirt if needed. Good for ice and snow as well. Not as long as I'd like though. Makes me wish I had just purchased a spade and cut off about 2 feet of the handle. Got it for my mother to put in her car. She likes that its collapsible but has a difficult time unlocking and opening it with her tiny hands. She will probably leave it opened up and just toss it in the trunk.
This tool isnt for everybody. Its not very long and if you dont want to fiddle with the locking ring it will go unused. Maybe next time I'll get the Glock entrenching shovel. Its a little bigger and the handle is longer.
