I got the mower because I need the exercise and its eco friendly. It does a nice job of mowing and its not hard to push. I'm suprised that more people don't use them. The only disadvantage I can see is that it doesn't cut tall grass like a gas mower would. On the plus side it doesn't throw rocks and if you run into a stick and the blades get stuck all you have to do is push the blades backwards and presto it becomes unstuck. My Gilmour reel mower arrived about a month ago. I've already cut the grass on our property three times with it, and I'm very happy with the job it does. I was a little leary about using a manual mower because our property is just over 1/4 acre, and it usually takes me a couple of hours to cut it with the power mower, but that turned out to be a moot point. I'm actually able to push the Gilmour mower faster because it's so much lighter. I also don't have to stop and refuel halfway through the job. I just push and go.
I find that the bagger works very well. I set the blade height at 1/2 inch to 1 inch, and I get plenty of clippings to add to our compost pile. I like to put the wheel barrow toward the front area of the yard, so that as the bagger fills, I can just dump it in there. When I'm finished the whole yard, I empty the grass from the wheel barrow in the compost pile way in the back. When I get to the back yard, I take the bagger off and let all of the clippings just mulch into the ground. The reel blade does a good job of blending the clippings into the grass, rather than piling them into strips as you mow along your rows.
It's a good idea to spray silicone lubricant along the blade before you cut the grass, and brush the grass off the mower when you're finished.
I love the fact that I don't have to plan to buy cans of gasoline, or haul them in my Jeep. I'm also very happy that I'm no longer covered in dirt and grass, or smelling like gasoline when I'm finished the job. Using a reel mower is a good little workout, and it's healthier for the grass. I highly recommend this machine.

Our 6.5 hp gas mower finally gave out. We did not want spend a lot money for the next mower and decided to a push reel mower a try. There were many to choose from but found some as expensive as gas mowers. We found our Gilmour with a grass-catcher and sharpening kit a little over 100.00 with free shipping at Amazon. This mower does a very nice job without the noise, fumes
and dust of my old mower. You don't really need to use the bag since it clips the grass instead of chopping it into bits allowing for better decomposition. It does not cut tall grass well and had to mine in stages the first time so you can't skip a week or two. A very good work out too!
