Tools and Hardware Reviews of Globe 48526 23-Watt Mini Compact Fluorescent Spiral Bulb (100-Watt Incandescent Equivalent), Soft White, 4 Pack

Customer Review: Could be better.
Summary: 2 Stars

These could have been better. I found that they don't fit into regular light sockets (such as those on wall sconces), and they noticeably flicker a bit. I think the GE ones are much better.

I got mine shipped from Amazon, and half of them arrived broken as well.

Customer Review: Curly Bulbs--not so great
Summary: 1 Stars

These bulbs are being purchased by the millions based the questionable assumption that they are the right choice for environmentally conscious consumers.

Maybe I'm the only one who has a problem with these supposedly long-lasting bulbs not lasting nearly as long as regular environmentally-incorrect bulbs. Two of them burned out in a day!

Also, these bulbs contain mercury and have to be disposed of properly. Where I live, proper disposal involves delivering the bulbs to a special unit of the rubbish company, a drive way across town. More fossil fuels burned!

How many millions of these bulbs are being tossed in the trash to poison the environment?

Revised rating: *** 3 stars
Recycling these bulbs is a thorny issue. For an informative discussion, Google "CFL Recycling Project" and read the PDF.

An article in Slate Magazine says curly bulbs are peachy. The mercury content isn't enough to worry about. Go ahead and throw 'em away. Google "Slate CFL" to see the story.

Now, if they can only get these dang bulbs to last as long as standard energy-hogging bulbs. I'm changing my rating to three stars (from one) because the Slate article is convincing.

Customer Review: Globe 230-Watt Flourescent Light
Summary: 4 Stars

I agree with Betty Dravis and I wish I had her eyes for a bargain. "Betty Dravis Eyes", somehow sounds familiar. Well anyway these bulbs not only last longer they save a good deal of electricity. I have a hall light that seems like I was replacing it with conventional bulbs every couple weeks, a month at most. When I replaced it with a fluorescent bulb like this one it lasted 3 months at least and then the only reason I think it went out is the freight train that shakes the house after thirty years of rattling the rafters made the fixture flakey as a week old croissant.

Customer Review: Good Value
Summary: 5 Stars

These compact fluorescents are excellent value for money when compared to most stores. They will save you quite a lot of money over time on your utility bills!

Customer Review: Great Bulb If You Can Get It
Summary: 1 Stars

Like it's 60 Watt equivalent from the same manufacturer, the bulbs themselves are a great buy for the price. Unfortunately, just as others have noted, you may need some luck on your side to get these to arrive without being in pieces. The 4 bulbs get packaged in a carton and along the way, it is likely they smash into each other. I ordered 3 boxes and two of them were completely smashed on arrival. I had also ordered the 60 watt variant, but the packaging on those is the vacuum plastic type and those survived without problems. I would think twice about ordering these with the sole reason that they will likely arrive destroyed.
