This fluorescent bulb comes in a small form factor (this is ultra-mini). Definitely smaller than a normal light bulb, and purportedly will save you $34/bulb over the life of the bulb.
After reading some of the reviews here, I tried out all the bulbs when they arrived, just to make sure that they didnt break on the ship over. All the bulbs worked (despite the skimpy padding in the box), so no complaints here!

I agree with most of the reviews. They're a good size, about the same brightness as a 40 watt, and the color is just a tad different, but I plan on buying more. There is one aspect that you should be aware of, though. I tried them in exterior fixtures and they worked just fine, even in sub-zero temperatures. But... if you plan to use them in an outside fixture that is controlled by an Intermatic timer that replaces the inside switch, when the termperature drops below freezing, for some reason, the timer senses this as the bulb being burned out and it confuses the on and off settings. The bulb still works, but it turns on in the morning and off before dusk. Except for this application I recommend them.Customer Review: Light bulbs

I was so excited to find these mini lights that fit our kitchen recessed fixtures. I ordered them in May, and less than 3 months later, every single one has burned out. WAY too short a life, and WAY too expensive. A good idea if only they'd be longer lasting.
