Tools and Hardware Reviews of Gorilla Glue 50004 Adhesive, 4-OuncesCustomer Review: Gorilla strong Summary: 4 Stars
It does what it's suppose to do and those it very well. The only negative is the application process which is only a minor gripe.
Customer Review: Incredible product! Summary: 5 Stars
I have been using Gorilla Glue as a professional model maker for several months now, and I am happy to report that it surpasses any and all expectations I had for it. I use it to glue resin panels to masonite and fiber board, and it is extraoridnary in that role. I have found that the expanding quality of the glue allows gaps to be forgiven, and have used it in place of wood glue on several projects. Use it sparingly, though, because the expanding nature of Gorilla glue can sneak up on you. It does sand very well, and takes paint well, too. I even used it to put my gutter back in place when it started to fall off of my house... Three months later (in Oregon rain) and it's still holding tight. For smaller projects, I would advise using Gorilla Super Glue, which is simply amazing stuff. I cannot even BEGIN to recommend these glues enough!
Customer Review: It might be strong but difficult to work with. Summary: 2 Stars
Gorilla glue might be very strong but it is not user friendly for woodworking. It has some major drawbacks. It is not water soluble so you cannot wipe the excess with a wet rag (I had to use lacquer thinner). It expands quite a bit which means even if you wipe the excess initially, you are still going to have it coming out of the joint. Don't even think about using it to glue anything without using clamps, as the expansion of the glue will cause the parts to move. The bottle cap is cheap and it broke at the bottle when I tried to pull off the cap (which of course glued itself to the nozzle).
I've gone back to conventional woodworking glues and the new ones (tite-bond) are very strong so there is no real advantage to Gorilla glue.
Customer Review: Least favorite glue/adhesive Summary: 2 Stars
I like to have solutions before I have problems and this glue has been more of a problem than a solution. I'm always up for another 'better' or more applicable solution for a specific handyman problem/project that arises, since I'm always fixing/improving/modifying something. But this glue has left me frustrated numerous times.
Can it create a strong bond? Yes. But it takes a very long time to cure (24 hours, and that's if the materials bonded are porous, longer if not, like smooth plastics, also slower if the temperature is cold like in a cool garage), requires a very good clamping in the meantime, is very brittle and not flexible (which can destroy the bond entirely), and expands leaving messy edges and/or uncertainty on proper area to apply glue. It's also difficult to clean up/off once you've realized its the wrong solution.
I'll stick to my epoxies, liquid nails/construction adhesive, super glues/gels, silicone, wood and other purposeful glues, even scotch tape for that matter, before I use this glue again (no pun intended.)
Customer Review: Lots of glue Summary: 4 Stars
Gorilla Glue is incredible. It'll hold almost anything.
The downside is, you only need a drop for most small repairs. This 4oz bottle is about 3.9 ounces too much.
