Tools and Hardware Reviews of Gorilla Tape 1.88-Inch by 35-Yard Tape RollCustomer Review: Help has arrived for mending the Ranch Summary: 5 Stars
[ I couldn't find Gorilla tape locally. I did find local retailers on google, but winter roads to bad at the time to drive much. What I found on Amazon was cheaper, even with postage, with Amazons usual prompt delivery. Thank you
Customer Review: I love and hate it for the same reason--it works almost TOO well Summary: 5 Stars
Note to all: Do not use this anywhere you want to easily remove it. Temporary jobs need not apply except maybe in the case I present.
My main reason for buying this was MOVING and storing stuff post-move, though it's come in handy all over the house where nothing else would work (crappy drywall not holding a scrawny screw to childproof the sliding closet doors, you name it, we've taken this stuff to it).
In moving, I had some containers--mostly Rubbermaid Roughneck ones--that absolutely, because of their contents (food/liquid especially, but in some cases valuable documents)--I could not afford to have any leaks OR outside air/dust/grime shared with. This stuff is GORGEOUS... and for that particular plastic, it actually, with some serious yanking (careful not to tear apart the crates though), did come off and didn't even leave adhesive behind--serious wow considering it held many things for upwards of 2 years through a total of 4500 miles of moving 4xs, through 3 storage facilities and 1 muggy sunroom as well, through 3 time zones in the US, some in Europe and Canada... it's been pretty incredible to see it work.
It ALSO doesn't leave goop behind if you use it on tile ie flooring... which I had to do when making some barrier protections because a neighbor brought home and bred what they said were at least 5,000 flour beetles I really didn't want to deal with in my own little downtown home. This stuff didn't let them through, and man am I ever-grateful since I buy local goods in bulk meaning lots of those thin plastic bags to chew right through, eep.
What you do NOT want to use this for? Well... painted stuff is probably not a great idea if you don't want to re-paint it. Fabric, even speakers and the like, I'd be nervous about. I haven't had a use for it on anything metal, so I can't speak there, but this is one of few things that you don't have to start with a sparkling surface to use... and it's SOOOO much nicer than duct tape for so many reasons, the main one the obvious lack of residue along the edges. Know how duct and other icky industrial tapes always, ALWAYS need to be "re-taped" with something smooth on the edges if you don't want the cheap-o threads full of stinky slimy adhesive to smear that stuff eventually everywhere? This is not an issue with Gorilla tape. I've used both this divine huge role and also the teeny tiny cute one, and while it takes a long time to use it--had it since around 2006--it hasn't gotten brittle or--despite serious weather changes--had the adhesive move/melt. It still pulls away from itself very clean, not like the competitors, so if you want the best hold and the least residual junk, this is for you. I'm not totally bashing duct--heck, for basements, it's a great air filter :P but this is what I use where I CARE about (which for me is everywhere).
Customer Review: Killer Tape Summary: 5 Stars
Killer strong tape, black. Easy to rip. Yes, there is nothing like duct tape in looks and function, but this tape is great.
Customer Review: STICKY BUT NOT AS STRONG OR HEAT RESISTENT AS IT SHOULD BE -- OUR SOLUTION WAS A GLUE GUN! Summary: 3 Stars
IN A NUTSHELL:
If "Duck Tape" is not sticky enough and "Gorilla Tape" is not durable enough perhaps it is time to try something different?
The solution for us was a glue gun and there are different types of glue that are available to be loaded in the gun depending on your needs.
JUST WHAT'S WHAT WITH GORILLA GLUE?
Essentially all the virtues and shortcomings of this product have been well articulated by other reviewers except perhaps for the sheer frustration that using the wrong sticky product can fill one's day with.
Gorilla Glue's virtue, it is very sticky, is made into a fatal weakness due to the tape's lack of strength, compared to the bond it provides compounded by its lack of durability when exposed to the elements. In practice, the surfaces that you want to keep joined eventually come apart because the tape fails. The bond stays strong but the structure of the tape is niether strong enough nor weather resistant enough to provide a long lasting bond.
BOTTOM LINE: WOULD BE AN EXCELLENT PRODUCT IF THE TAPE WERE STRONGER AND MORE WEATHER RESISTANT
[I AM NOT AFFILIATED WITH ANY PRODUCT OR COMPANY]
Customer Review: Sticky, smelly Summary: 4 Stars
Highly effective, very strong adhesiveness!
It loses a star for the awful smell. I was wondering "oh my God what died in the walls" before I realized it was the tape. It does limit the potential uses of the tape as you wouldn't want to have it near food or your person.
