This is an excellent Venting closure. I was looking for ways to keep critters out of my house. The standard vent enclosures never fully close after use and allow for a variety of bugs and mammals to enter your house.This item ended all that for me. It's pretty simple to set up. I painted it before installing it where the other vent was. Don't fret if you can't use all the screws as the new calking materials on the market are more than enough to hold it to any wall.Customer Review: Excellent external dryer vent

The HEARTLAND 21000 Dryer Vent replaces my old light, aluminum flap sort of encased by an aluminum triangle/box where the flap was just hanging there and opening and closing in the breeze.
While installing the new vent, I was amazed how much cold air was rushing out of the 4-inch hole, and this new vent takes care of that, and no way rodents or bugs can crawl in, too, and the wind won't open it. There's no cold air rushing out of there now.
When the dryer is on, a small inverted plastic cup is blown upwards, and the hot air is directed downward and out the baffles. When the dryer is off, the cup settles down and seals the opening well enough that there's no more cold air escaping, and I bet in the winter, no hot air escapes either, except when the dryer is running, of course.
This thing promises to pay for itself in short order. The biggest problem is making sure it's level, and on slanting clapboard, I glued a couple of popsicle sticks for shims rather than cut away the clapboard. Then I screwed it down tight and caulked the edges and all is just fine. It looks cooler, too. I'll probably paint it when I get around to it, but I think that's optional.

I was concerned about how big this vent was but it doesn't stick out that much farther than my old aluminum vent. It've very sturdy and works great. My laundry room is much warmer now. I should have bought this years ago.Customer Review: Good design, but question it's longevity

This product has a great design in that it is easy to clean by removing the lid from the top if needed. If it was constructed of a little thicker, stronger material I would give it a four star rating. If it also included a through-the-wall length of pipe, I would give it a five star rating. I installed it a month ago. When the weather gets cold will it keep the heat in the house??? I will let you know. Most other dryer vent hoods do not give you a positive seal or the ease of cleaning builtup lint that the Heartland 21000 does.Customer Review: Great solution for dryer venting

Item was purchased based on previous reviews and I was not disappointed. Vent closure is very well made,sturdy,and parts fit and work perfectly.
Mine had to be mounted over aluminum siding so I screwed the vent closure parts onto a piece of 3/4"X8"X12" painted board with a 4" hole in it for the duct pipe. The painted board was then attached with 4 long screws through the siding. Worked very well.
A bit of silicone seal to get everything airtight and we now have a much warmer laundry room.
