Tools and Hardware Reviews of HONEYWELL TL8230A1003 Thermostat Electric Heat Digital 7 day programmable

Customer Review: A Money Saver
Summary: 5 Stars

The thermostat is accurate, programmable and a thus a money saver. My electric bill dropped significantly after installation. It is nice to know that I don't have to remember to turn down the temperature - which I often forgot to do - and that it will turn it back up before I come home or in the morning. I particularly like the fact that you can program each day and manually override at any time. If you don't want to program it yourself there are three pre-set buttons for comfort, energy saver and vacation.

Customer Review: Aaiight
Summary: 3 Stars

Not a bad little thermostat, with the exception of it being 208/230 volt and not the 120v line voltage I needed, no voltage descriptions at any of the spots I was taken, after the fact I googled it and found the description elsewhere. I was still able to use it after modifying my installation. Also kinda lame on not being able to actually set your temperature other than Daytime, Nighttime, and Vacation. With those exceptions taken into account a fairly nice little unit for the price.

Customer Review: Awesome thermostat, easy to install
Summary: 5 Stars

This was the 2nd thing in my life I've installed home improvement-wise, the first being a dimmer switch so I'm definately a novice. It was easy to install. Just make sure you label your wires before disconnecting the old thermostat. It's rated for about double the Amps that my baseboard heater puts out (which is 8.33 or so). The only thing that caused me a little hesitation at first is that the L1 and L2 wire connection spots are labeled but the T1 and T2 weren't (my old thermostat had all 4 labeled) but I connected the T1 line directly above the L1 spot and the T2 directly below the L2 spot and it worked. The grouping looked pretty obvious.

It's pretty customizable. You can set 4 time periods for EACH day of the week, not just a weekday and weekend setting. You basically tell it what time you get up, go to work, come home from work, and go to bed and then set the preprogrammed temps that it should be at during those times. If you flip dip switch #2 before installing it, it'll go into this mode where instead of just starting to warm up your place at the desired time, it'll make sure it's ALREADY at that temp by the desired time and it auto tunes itself each day to find out how much lead time it needs.

I found out by accident that it does have a battery backup, as I killed power to it in the breaker box and it all came back up as programmed afterwards.

Great little unit, bought 2 of them. And it was really easy to install even for a novice like me. I had a hell of a time finding a nice digital programmable thermostat to replace my 240v double pole baseboard heater and was pleasantly surprised to find this one and for a comparable price to others.

Customer Review: Disappointing Programmable Line Thermostat
Summary: 3 Stars

I bought Honeywell thinking they are the best. The unit works fine, but the programming suffers. This has four programmble times per day (good) but only two practical temperature settings (bad). Once set, the two temp settings exist for all occurrences of that setting. For example, say the "economy" temp setting is 65. You might want it 64 during mid-day M-F ("away"), 66 for the same mid-day hours on weekends, and 62 at night. Can't do it; you're stuck with the one setting for every occurrence of "economy" which is typically mid-day and night. You want maximum control to make electric heat as cost-efficient as possible. This unit isn't as robust as my previous Honeywell CT1950 which caught fire. So far, Honeywell isn't scoring big points. Problem is there are not many choices for line thermostats.

Customer Review: Excellent Thermostat
Summary: 5 Stars

These will work great I think. I don't work for Honeywell, nor am I paid for this review.

I think the ability to adjust the presets will offer sufficient control over the periods to accomplish the goal of automatically controlling the temp of my home.

In my previous home I had central heat and had a 24 year old automatic Honeywell control. There were 4 periods and weekday, Sat and Sun control. I could set any period, on those days to any temp I wanted. There were no "Preset Temps" on that thermostat.

Although this new baseboard thermostat doesn't have that level of flexibility, I think the ability to customize your preset will be sufficient. The early start feature is wonderful, funny it isn't default.
