Tools and Hardware Reviews of Harold Pie Crust Maker 14"

Customer Review: A must for Pie Bakers
Summary: 5 Stars

Just as good as the 11in pie crust maker only larger. I got both. So should you.

Customer Review: Best thing to hit pie making since flour
Summary: 5 Stars

This is THE most outstanding product. It's 5 bucks, you have no excuse for not at least trying it!! Just think, no more ripped pie crust, no more lop-sided tops, no more stretching one corner so it reaches the edge, no more cutting off pieces and then gluing them with egg whites into the cracks..... You can see my history

This makes pie crust an absolute snap. Just pop your ball of dough into the middle of the bag with some flour spread on it, zip it shut, and the roll over the bag until the inside is filled to the edges with pie dough. Then just unzip...and flip! I cannot tell you how easy it is. Makes a perfect crust every time, and no more messing around with rolling pin covers, parchment paper, or that old Julia Childs trick of rolling the crust around the rolling pin. My prayers have been answered

Customer Review: Better than wax paper.
Summary: 3 Stars

To be fair, I've only tried it once so far. While it does make you more conscious of the size and shape of the dough you're rolling out, I don't think I'd have a viable crust if I rolled my dough out to the full size of the circle (which is what I'd imagined doing). It's a VERY large circle; easily an inch or two larger than I need my crust to be to fit my 9" pan, and my recipe makes a perfect amount of dough, so I'm not thrilled with the idea of upping the proportions in the recipe to make a crust that reaches the edges of this thing, just to throw the excess away. BUT it does make it a bit easier to move the crust onto the pie, IF you can flour it adequately, which I found a little tricky. I was hoping to be able to toss the flour in the empty pouch and shake to coat, but that doesn't work. It's not as amazing as I'd hoped, but I'll probably keep using it, as it is more sturdy and easier to move your crust than with wax paper or silpat mats.

Customer Review: Fantastic for gluten-free crusts!
Summary: 5 Stars

Gluten-free pie crust - what a mess! If you roll it thin enough to be tasty, it's too tender to move. But rolled too thick, it's gritty and unpleasant.

Three cheers for the Harold Pie Crust Maker! Now it's easy to roll out my pie crust and just flip it over into the dish. Better pies, less swearing.

Customer Review: Great Piemaker's Tool
Summary: 5 Stars

I've messed up more than my share of pie crusts and made a fine mess along the way. I can roll them fine enough, but, the work surface flour seems to make it to the kitchen floor and the tricky transfer from the wax paper or plastic wrapped dough from the work surface to pie pan is always a clumsy affair for me. This flexible but firm plastic zippered bag contains the powdery mess and keeps me honest in shaping a circular crust. The transfers to the pie pan are much simpler due to the study plastic non-stick surface. One of the best tools for a dedicated cook and would-be piemaker that has come along in a long time. Even my 'no frills' Grandma would appreciate it and it's a bargain to boot. A great gift to any would-be or professional piemaker. I saw it first on America's Test Kitchen website.
