Tools and Hardware Reviews of Honeywell 18155 SilentComfort Permanent, True HEPA Air Purifier

Customer Review: Does the job -- very quietly
Summary: 5 Stars

In less that a day, this had the air in my (large) bedroom clean and clear. I followed the instructions, to initially run it on high for the first "clean out". I used to have the type of Honeywell that required costly filter replacements So this for me is a replacement of a new technology with an older one. It does the job, my stuffy nose is gone, and it is very quiet - I run it at low all night long. I did a lot of research before I bought this brand and this size and read lots of online reviews. I think it is important to select one that is sized to the room it will be used in, and Honeywell has been making these for a very long time, so I think they have it right.

Customer Review: Does the job, cleans the air of smoke well (medical marijuana patient)
Summary: 5 Stars

I needed an air cleaner for my apartment due to the fact that I am a medical marijuana patient in Los Angeles and I keep the windows closed most of the time and the air conditioner running.

The unit is a little larger than I expected but was able to find a location that has it out of the way of foot traffic and also away from the ceiling fan. A magazine placed on top of the unit also helps to hide it at first glance.

The sound that others have commented on is not an issue to me. I have used the unit on high only (no jokes please) and it sounds similar to a 20" box fan on low setting. Noticeable but not overbearing and if you live on a major street like I do the white noise is actually nice for sleeping yet does not interfere with sound from the computer speakers or tv.

Waking up the first day after using it all night had me convinced this was worth the purchase. The air smelled clean and my nasal passages were clear, also I did not have the normal "bong cough" that many smokers have after years of medicating with medical marijuana.

Another plus to me was that this unit does not have the uv light or ozone generating capability. It just cleans the air and also I have read of health issues from the units that generate ozone into closed areas.

Customer Review: Doesnt get rid of smoke well
Summary: 1 Stars

The primary reason I purchased this model was to handle smoke. I have a small office room in my house where I spend a lot of time. For the winter, I wanted something that would remove most of the smoke. Which I previously had a honeywell, smaller model, which worked great, for about 3 months, I figured I would get a bigger and better model... This thing doesn't remove smoke half as well as the small one I had. I will say it may remove smoke over a long period of time, but I smoke about once an hour.

I have a feeling the reason may be the airflow design, it takes in air from the bottom vents and pushes it out through the top. It would seem to me this thing is constantly cleaning the same air. My smaller model would pull in air from the front and force the air upward, out the back.

Customer Review: Dollar for dollar likely the best unit available IMHO
Summary: 5 Stars

Its super quiet I've listened to others and this truly IS QUIET. It works very well controlling contaminants in the air. The fact that the HEPA filter is permanent and cleanable makes this an outstanding value. If you buy any number of other brands, expect to pay $50 to $75 everytime you need to change the filter.
This one is in the bedroom, and the air is very clean. I've ordered a second unit for another part of the house, and may order additional units in the near future as well. We use it on medium at night for white noise to sleep by, It's perfect for that as well.

Customer Review: Energy usage review
Summary: 4 Stars

I'll be returning this product since it was damaged in shipping. But I figured I would post in case someone was interested in how many watts consumed by this unit.

Low - 40
Med - 60
High - 90

These were measured using a Kill-A-Watt. Not too bad and also not too loud except on high. Also note that this unit should be used in rooms no larger than 196 sq ft.
