Customer Review: Great Air Purifier...Very Quiet...although a little larger than expected

This is a great air purifier for your home, especially if you want something that isn't going to sound like you have a big fan running all the time. The only reason I took away one star is that no where in the description does it say that you will have to replace one of the filters but you do! You don't have to replace the HEPA filter which is great, but there is another filter that needs replaced I think about every 3 months.Customer Review: Great Entry-Level Air Purifier

If you're a first-time buyer looking for a nice entry-level air purifier this is the way to go. It is low-cost, pretty quiet, and does a good job for a medium-sized room. This unit does not produce ozone despite what some might tell you.
Cost:
Less than most units of this size. Other comparable machines average around $150. Every three months you will have to replace the pre-filter. If you buy the larger pre-filter and cut it down it will run you $10 every 9 months (not bad). It also does not come with a charcoal filter over the main filter (this is the same one that will cost you $10).
Noise:
SilentComfort is kind of a misnomer in that it is not silent. It is almost as loud as if you had your microwave running all day (though more of a soothing noise).
Efficiency:
It does a decent job but does not perform up to the standards that some people might prefer as its CADR rating is kind of low (132 Dust - 127 Smoke - 135 Pollen). Most people say it does not handle smoke well thought I am not a smoker so I cannot attest to this.
My opinion:
I have allergies and it really helps me to breathe better if I'm in the room while it is running. It is slightly annoying to hear since I like complete silence but it helps me to breathe so I put up with the noise. If I light a candle I can barely smell the smoke. Rooms have a fresher feel when this is running and the air is more crisp. Seems to work better at a higher elevation but I keep it on the floor for the most part.
*THE OZONE SCARE*
This unit does not produce harmful ozone like some might claim. Some units do, this one doesn't. I urge you to read the article below as this unit is approved for use.

The power consumption is not too bad.. I measured it this morning and its like 90W / 55W / 45 W
The lowest mode is really silent and works like white noise which is great.
I didnt believe much that the air would feel fresher but it does... in a couple of hours all seems much colder and breathable
Love the fact that the HEPA filter is permant
Price is more than great for its characteristics
Size is huge...really, take that into consideration because its not very discreet in the room
Only thing that is ridiculous is that Honeywell insists the filter should operate 24h .... this might be a good idea for your room but not for the environment, especially if you are not in your house for hours during the day.

Did a lot of research about this one, before buying.
QUALITY
This product doesn't container ionizer which is a big plug.
I live in a small unit (1 bedroom), and on high it handles the livingroom/kitchen/bedroom fine, but on medium I only notice help in the room I'm in ... and I would imagine low only helps around the unit.
It really helped with the coughing I had, I can easily notice the difference.
Just like with HEPA vacuums, there is a (cheap) prefilter at the bottom which needs to be replaced every 3 months.
NOISE
It is quiet, far more than I expected really. I'll classify it as white noise - because it's not high pitched or anything.
However on high the fan can sometimes rattle after long amount of work and then it's no longer quiet, it goes away by switching to medium and then after half an hour back to high.
Also it rattles if handling (moving, even a bit) the unit while it's on, never do that !
My speculation is that sooner or later it's going to rattle all the time and the unit will need to be replaced .. hopefully not too soon.

BTW I live in Australia, and this item shipped extremely quickly, so thumbs up for that.
Bottom line, very high quality for the price, my advice is get it before they stop making it !
