Tools and Hardware Reviews of Honeywell 50250 99.97% Pure HEPA Round Air Purifier

Customer Review: SHOCKED AT THE POSITIVE REVIEWS
Summary: 1 Stars

I purchased this hoping that my sleeping could be more pleasureable without the congested nose that comes around just before spring. I am extremely shocked at the positive reviews that this has received. I ran it heavy for the first 2 days, and then after that wanted to use the lowest setting because it was just too loud. Even on the lowest setting I got this loud humming as if the tires on my car were warped due to misalignment. I couldn't imagine how someone could sleep through this, because I surely couldn't. Not only this but the thing was just too big. And to add insult to injury there was no improvement in the air quality in my bedroom. I sent this back ASAP, and am now back to hunting for another option.

Customer Review: Save yourself time and money and buy this one
Summary: 5 Stars

I live in the country and have the dustiest house. I've tried all kinds of machines and finally found a keeper. It is a little noisy but well worth it. I don't have to dust but once a month now compared to everyday.

Customer Review: Smells like wet dog.
Summary: 3 Stars

I've owned this air filter for five months now and used it about a dozen times. We really loved it and it cleaned the air and got rid of the allergies. But this last time we turned it on, it started to emit a foul smell and made my room smell like wet dog. We cleaned all the filters and still doesn't help. It seems to be coming from the motor. I did some research online & found out many other people have this problem and nobody has found a solution except to just stop using the filter which is what I'm gonna do. What a waste of money. I wanted my air to smell fresher not like dog. I don't even own a dog.

Customer Review: Smoke with impunity! WHAT? I said, SMOKE WITH...
Summary: 5 Stars

Yeah sure, Hepa filter microns microbes blah blah, but it's the *carbon* filter (aka the Honeywell 38002 Enviracare Universal Replacement Pre-Filter) that keeps the house from smelling like a Bullitt County Bingo Hall. Change the carbon filter every six weeks or so and you can lie to your children about having given up the Pall Malls. I bought the Honeywell 17000 first; it uses the same pre-filter, it's quieter and it probably helps a little. The 50250, however, is exponentially more effective at eliminating cigarette smoke simply because it filters a massive amount of air. To do that, it has to make a little noise. Fine with me; I haven't heard Bright Eyes whine in six months. And I'm pretty sure the dog stopped barking at the mailman.

Customer Review: Solution for nightlight-beacon
Summary: 4 Stars

The solution for the nightlight is simple. Cover it with a jar lid. Go to your kitchen and find a screw-on lid from a jar. Any lid that is about 2 1/4 to 3 inches in diameter will work....a jar of applesauce, gravey, spaghetti sauce, whatever. Place it over the dial/light area and duct tape it down on the high side. Then you can flip it up from the bottom to turn the thing on and off, and flip it back down when you're done. The bright light is gone. There is still a little light that seeps out around the top of the machine, just enough to see where it is in the dark, but there is no longer a bright beacon that bounces off the ceiling and lights up the whole room.

This is the second Honeywell air purifier I've had and I love it. The first one finally died after eight years of nightly use. Our bedroom is large so I needed another big unit. I was a little hesitant to get this model after reading about the loudness and the light in the reviews. But I took the gamble. The noise is the same as the older model I had..not that bad. Just background noise that is good to sleep to. The light really is bright and does bounce off the ceiling like an airport beacon. But it's easy to cover up as I described above and that problem is solved. I gave it only 4 stars instead of 5 because I had to find a solution for the bright light. But it is serving me very well for my purpose...breathing easy while sleeping well.
