I got this almost a month ago, and it's been on every day, love it so far. We live in a split level (about 1200 sf on each level) gas forced hot air in New England and couldn't/wouldn't go with anything smaller and it was difficult to find something this size-there weren't that many options. I had seen this at a friends home and like it but still looked for quite some time on amazon reading reviews before purchasing it (I was not happy with the reviews of how expensive the replacement filters were so that delayed my purchase).
In all it's a really great humidifier. It really does feel like it "washes" the air. It's way quieter than my last hunter model (which sounded like a jet engine and the "forever filter" was gross and scaley after 2 years). This is very quiet for a model of this size, and there are two tanks so it's not heavy to refill and they can be refilled at different times. Yes, as other reviewers state they are not flat so you can't walk away when you fill them, you have to hold onto them which could have been thought out better. I have soaked the filter ever few days as recommended and it still seems to be working fine so hopefully it will last at least two months before I need to replace it.
I have a digital hygrometer that I checked to see when the air reached 42 percent humidity and adjusted the dial to shut off once it reaches that number...otherwise I'm not sure you'd know when you got to optimum humidity (another design flaw, but minor). In the cold, dry days I'm filling up both tanks up ever 12 hrs (gas fha heat is very dry). It really makes the air quite comfortable and my hope is that the price of this machine and replacement filters is offset by the heating bills as moist air holds heat easier than dry air.

The only problem is a tendancy of the filter to become moldy, but this is easily remedied by adding 1/16 Cup or so of ammonia to each of 2 reservoirs that you fill with water. This will ward off the mold. Buy extra filters. This machine is very quiet relative to the amount of humidity that it puts out (hence the filter enclosure is correspondingly more humid, and tends toward mold more easily).Customer Review: Great humidifier for larger rooms

We've owned this humidifier for a few years. Our model is 6012i which is essentially the identical product with digital readouts for fan and humidity.
We discovered a very simple way to eliminate the annoying rattling sound when the tanks get lower. I would have rated it 3-4 stars before this fix. If your humidifier is now on a hard surface simply place the humidifier on a small rug and the rattling is gone. A thicker rug is better. In addition, on the rug the fan sounds significantly quieter due to the elimination of much of the vibration. It is now as quiet on the highest fan speed as it was on on the middle setting when on a wood floor.
The humidifier covers a large area. We use it for our bedroom and living/dining areas combined. We live in an area where the heat is on very often in winter, and the air used to get bone dry. Now it is very comfortable.
We have a deep sink, so refilling the tall containers is not a problem.
Recommended.

Very pleased with this purchase. Ours is very quiet, not sure why the one gentlemen found it to be noisy. It does a very good job and what we needed in the desert area in Fernley, NV. Easy to fill and operate. If looking for assistance with dryness in your home, while it may not go all over one's home, it does cover fairly well and has made a big difference in not awaking with dry mouth, and now that I know first hand, how detrimental dry mouth can be in forming decay in one's teeth/mouth area, feel this has helped too. Happy that we chose this product and placed our order with Amazon.com, we feel fortunate that they stock quality brands, good prices and if you require assistance, there is someone to help.
