Got this from Amazon when it was $26.99. It was during the some of the hottest days I've ever experienced in Southern California. The HW-628 was quite a relief and it really moved air well. This is a great buy if you don't want to turn on your AC and/or spend a lot of money. The price went up on Amazon, but when it went down to $26.99 again, I ordered two more for my other rooms. This fan is so great. I do not know where I would be without one. We are in the midst of a 15 day heat wave with temps in the high 90's. At night I turn on the fan and it cools my room quickly, it works better than my central air...Customer Review: BIG Electrical FLAW!

This product was rated highly by others for quietness and features, and I bought it expecting a good value. However, within one minute after installing it, one of the two fans immediately burned out with a loud POP because I flipped the direction switch while the fan was running. Granted, the manual has a line in the instructions saying not to do this (which I noticed later), but it is NOT pointed out in a very obvious way, nor is it mentioned on the control panel.
Something SO dangerous (there was a visible spark) and damaging should be protected with an interlock, or at least a warning label on the control!
I am surprised it got a UL listing (if it is in fact genuine) when it can so easily be shorted out.
The piece of crap is going in the trash now, because it's not worth the cost to try to send it back or get repaired.

This fan didn't work until I forcefully pressed the temperature knob up and turned it on full blast. This fan was very frustrating initially then I made it work consistently, so basically I fixed the fan when it was brand new. BOOYA!
Since there is now way of showing 3.5 stars, I reluctantly give 4. Your lucky this time.
