Lasts for years. I've been using one almost daily, sometimes every day for weeks, and it just keeps going, over 4 years now. I have 4 of these in two homes. I have tried others, and they've burned out, or just didn't push enough air to accomplish anything. I've given them all away and just get these now.
I will say, the wing adjustment is finicky at times, but it's better than any other window fan I've tried.
Highest volume is loudish, but the volume is so much more than any other window fan I've tried you have to wonder how it does it, or what the others don't bother doing, like maybe engineering the product.

I purchased mine a few days ago from another vendor. I plugged it in and then tested it out and was very pleased. After a few times of switching the knobs onto different settings and seeing which settings would work best for me, the one fan started blowing a lot less powerful than the other and it would leave a burning smell in my room. However, I think that I am going to purchase another one and hope that it is not defective because this fan sure beats the competition to a pulp. It has more power and a better, more controllable feature set than any other window fan of comparable price or otherwise. I can not applaud the quality, but for features and power I would recommend this fan.Customer Review: Better quality than Holmes

I got three different brands to test. One was this model, another was a Holmes (with digital display), and another was a brand called Hawaiian Breeze. The Honeywell was bar far the better quality unit, even though it was between the price ranges of the other two. The fan motors did not have an annoying hum like the Holmes model. And instead of the extension that clumsily slips on the left of the other two units I tested, the Honeywell model had built-in extensions in both sides. Also, the unit seemed more powerful than the other two, especially in the high-setting. On the lowest setting, it was very quiet, but not moreso than the other models. The construction quality was also better, with heavier-duty plastic. This model also included a metal bracket to mount the unit sideways should you have sliding rather than double-hung windows...a nice touch. I wish the extensions were a few inches longer and the whole unit a few inches shorter to accomodate a wider-range of windows. Although it indicates a maximum width of 38 inches, it fit in my 40-inch window fine without any gaps.Customer Review: Better than expected.

I read in other reviews that this unit is quiet, but I didn't expect it to be this quiet. Great price, nice features and does its job well.
