Tools and Hardware Reviews of Honeywell HWM-500 UV Warm Moisture HumidifierCustomer Review: Humidifies well, cleans pretty easily, no white dust Summary: 4 Stars
Like it, it humidifies the room quickly. Maintenance is easy enough, though it helps to clean it once a week or so (which seems to be no harder than hand-cleaning dishes). I got this humidifier because (unlike ultrasonic humidifiers) it steams the water, releasing purified vapors. From what I understand, this means that the vapors will not release fine white dust all over the furniture (ultrasonic humidifiers create vapors that carry with them the mineral particles that were in the water, which later fall down as white dust). A couple minor issues: it can be heavy to carry the tank, which is filled upside-down then needs to be flipped (while full) and put in place; fine for me, but I wouldn't want my 68-year old mom to be doing this. Also, the dial lets you increase or decrease the desired humidity level, but it doesn't have an indicator to show exactly what the humidity level is set at -- thus, I would suggest getting a separate humidistat if this is a concern. I think they are inexpensive and usually more accurate than built-in ones.
Customer Review: Humidistat did not function Summary: 2 Stars
Humidistat was either all on, or all off. While on, it became too humid and fogged windows creating mold. Also, after one tank of water, the boiling chamber had quite a bit of scale (our water is hard). So, it would have been a lot of maintenance to clean the boiling chamber.
Customer Review: Nice Humidifier Summary: 4 Stars
This is a pretty nice humidifier. (A few of the mineral absorption pads are included with it.)
As others have mentioned, the tank is a bit heavy when it is full of water. But it does not leak, so it is easy to refill.
I live in a very dry climate, and I have to refill my tank about 2 times a day with it running at its 50% setting. It doesn't even last overnight if it is at the 75% setting or higher.
The humidifier is quiet. As others mentioned, it sounds a tad "bubbly" from the water heating, but I do not mind the sound at all....it provides some nice background sound.
Customer Review: One of the few humidifiers with a UV Bulb Summary: 4 Stars
This is the second Honeywell HWM-500 UV Warm Moisture Humidifier we have purchased this year. We were already familiar with the model as it is the exact same machine as the former Slant/Fin Portable Electric Warm Mist Humidifier GF-200.
The Pros: It works. A typical room's humidity is increased by 5% (during winter typically from 45% to 50%) and you can feel it. We hope and assume the UV germicidal light bulb is killing microorganisms as advertised. Disposable pad filters effectively trap the minerals.
The Cons: It's noisy, bubbling away like a coffee percolator, but after a while you don't really notice. Weekly cleaning of the hot water reservoir of mineral scale is a necessary but tedious chore and other plastic parts is difficult.
Customer Review: PLEASED, BUT . . . Summary: 4 Stars
I'm very pleased with this humidifier. I frankly don't understand the "loud boiling" criticism- it just isn't the case. I had several others from another manufacturer which I was very happy with but they were recalled due to a fire hazard and I ordered five of these as replacements. If they'd all worked I'd have given it a 5-star rating, but one of the 5 came D.O.A. Hopefully the reliability will exceed the initial quality control for these units! One further gripe- amazon recommends the HMP-12P replacement pads for this unit(see Honeywell HMP-12P QuickSteam Mineral Absorption Pad, 12 Pack)- THEY ARE NOT THE PADS THAT GO WITH THIS UNIT! They're larger and, since they were only $3.99 a box I'm not bothering to return them, so I'll cut them down to size and will use them, but that's an error on amazon's part which should be rectified.
