Tools and Hardware Reviews of Honeywell HWM450 Quick Steam Warm Moisture HumidifierCustomer Review: Compact design. Too noisy for bedroom. Summary: 4 Stars
I had it running for one night and am looking for a different one because it makes loud gurgling / boiling water sounds - kept waking me up all night EVERY time it had an ON cycle. I am a very sensitive sleeper though, so it may be ok for others, and keep in mind that the unit was right next to the bed on top of the night table (since it's very compact), on my wife's side of the bed. The sounds it makes are quite annoying and are not constant (it goes on and off). As far as cleaning, reliability etc - I can't say much, since I only used it once.
Customer Review: DEAD after < 24hours Summary: 1 Stars
What a piece of junk. Got it for my two twin infants' rooms. Worked great for about 1 day, then dead- no power. Tried the "unplug for 1 hour" deal...Nothing. Called Kaz and their customer service was terrible. I do not have time to wait weeks for shipping my unit back and having it fixed. When I inquired about a quicker resolution, they said "this is the way it works, this is the deal, too bad".
This is an absolute piece of junk sold by a pathetic company. Do NOT waste your time.
Customer Review: DO NOT BUY IT!!!!!! Summary: 1 Stars
DO NOT BUY IT!!!!!!
Worked for about 3 weeks and then stopped.
Customer Review: DO NOT BUY THIS HUMIDIFIER! Summary: 1 Stars
I do not write a lot reviews, but I felt I should on this product because I don't want to see someone else waste $80 on it. First of all, this unit is a full time job to maintain. The element covers in scale very quickly and it is very difficult to remove(and I would not say my water supply has a ton of minerals, etc). After fighting to keep the scale off the burner for two months, the unit just quit. After some checking, I am sure that the element overheated and I would have to send it to Honeywell to have it fixed. It was not warrantable, so it would cost me shipping, plus a fee, plus whatever it would take to fix it. Needless to say, I chunked it in the garbage. From now on, I am buying cheap humidifiers. I will do my best to keep them clean and mold free, but won't be so upset if (when) I have to replace it.
UPDATE on March 4, 2010:
I took it apart and found out that it had blown its thermal fuse. It is located on the under side of the hot plate inside of a white sheath. I jumped the fuse and turned it on and it worked fine. I found a replacement 216C thermal fuse on Amazon for a $1.69. I spliced it in and it is back running safely (fused). Hope this helps anyone who's unit just shuts off and won't turn back on. It is cheap to fix if you understand basic wiring.
Customer Review: DO NOT BUY THIS SERIOUSLY Summary: 1 Stars
I bought this unit and used it for a week and MUST return. It is noisy and it leaked all over my furniture and damage my night stand. My wife is really piss at me now. I should listen to the reviews here about the leaking. Buy it if you want to damage your carpet or furniture. Trust me and you will thanks me later.
