Tools and Hardware Reviews of Honeywell HWM450 Quick Steam Warm Moisture HumidifierCustomer Review: Above Average Summary: 4 Stars
I have run this humidifier every night since I bought it 4 months ago. It does a good job in the local area of my bedroom, which is all I really care about. The mineral absorption pads are hard to come by and do have to be changed frequently (every couple of weeks). The only negative is that this unit is a pain to clean and I cannot get all of the mineral deposits off. Having said that, I can't imagine any other unit would be any better. It's the water that creates the mineral deposits and there is nothing any humidifier in this price range can do about that. I would recommend this unit.
Customer Review: Accessories?!! Summary: 4 Stars
I've had this humidifer for a little over a month. I like the humidifier, although the humidistat is temperamental to inaccurate at times. The big problem: the mineral absorption pads are simply unavailable...everywhere. We've got hard water in Chicago and those babies need to be changed frequently. I saw that some people were going to try the slant/fin pads as an alternative. Can anyone who tried them tell the rest of us if they fit or not? I'm getting desperate here.
Customer Review: After few weeks it Leaks, Pads useless Summary: 1 Stars
The unit features automatic shut off when water is low by using a proximity switch via a float with a magnet in it. It has a shut off by setting humidity level and a shut off by count down timer. After a few weeks of use, the unit started leaking and you can't even tell where the leak is coming from. The pads do not prevent mineral build up on the hot plate. I am getting brownish deposits which I believe to be rust. The only way to remove it, is with white vinegar and old toothbrush which I had to bend into an "L" shape in order to get at and clean the stainless steel hotplate which boils the water. I was happy with the unit and preferred it over an ultrasonic unit I had, until it start leaking.
Customer Review: Almost a whole day of use! Summary: 1 Stars
I love the comfort of warm moisture humidifiers, but I needed one with a large capacity to cover my living room. After weeks of research and reading reviews, I settled on the HWM450. After receiving mine, it worked for less than a day before showing the same problems as the HWM330 model.
I couldn't have been more excited when I set up the HWM450 for the first time. It's huge, quiet, and has easy to use controls. Unfortunately, my excitement didn't last long... after having the unit on for most of the day, it shut itself off and wouldn't turn back on. The helpline suggested there's some kind of internal circuit breaker that can trip on the unit, and to resolve it, leave the unit off for an hour and try to turn it back on. That worked... for about 2 minutes. It shut itself off again. Very sad!
Customer Review: Alternative cleaning ideas Summary: 4 Stars
I've used this product for the past month and it works great. However, I have to clean the metal heating surface every 2 to 3 days. I must have extremely hard water because the white vinegar doesn't loosen the white mineral buildup. I even put a tablespoon of white vinegar in the water tank with each refill.
Has anyone had a similar experience and found a solution? Will CLR damage the heating surface?
Thanks for any tips.
