Tools and Hardware Reviews of Honeywell HZ-2200 Mini Tower Surround HeaterCustomer Review: Cheap reliable heater Summary: 5 Stars
We've had two of these heaters for three winters now, and they have proved to be reliable and efficient space heaters. They've done a great job of heating rooms in two unheated California apartments, at this point. Put one in an enclosed space, and it heats it right up - put two in adjoining rooms to really keep things warm. The only downside I'd mention is that they do quite a bit of whirring - not overly noticeable day-to-day, but definitely there. They also put out a bit of that "heater" smell when you first turn them on. They've survived three winters of being on every other day and still work like they did when they were new - we've had disappointing reliability experiences with other heaters, so it's nice to find a model you don't have to replace every year. Overall, we have no complaints - especially for the price!
Customer Review: Completely met the need Summary: 5 Stars
For 23 bucks it was completely worth it. It heats the room we are in so much that we went from halfway up on the dial to less then that. We have still not found the perfect setting but it consistently keeps us warm at night. It is noisy about as much so as our air conditioner. Do not get this if you mind white noise as it will bother the hell out of you. My SO needed something to sleep through the night and this met that need. She now no longer complains about being cold unless we do not turn it on.
Customer Review: Consumer reports scores well Summary: 3 Stars
Consumer reports gives this a very high rating among space heaters. I have not noticed anything particularly special about it, but it seems to be doing the job. Time will tell, I think... alot of space heaters we've had just die out after a season or two it seems... will have to see how this guy holds up!
Customer Review: Couldn't heat the box it came in! Summary: 1 Stars
I needed a small heater to place near me while on my computer in an 8X10 room. It just need to take the chill out of the air, not totally heat my room. I placed it 2 feet away from me and barely noticed a thing even after turning it up to the max setting. The heat comes out of the top and does little for warming my feet. The unit is not that tall so this surprised me.
I tried putting it within inches from me, knowing this was unsafe, but it didn't help warm those few inched around me. Also, the top of the unit gets very hot even when placed a feet feet from anything around it. You would need to be careful with pets or small kids around.
After trying different settings, running it for hours and moving it closer to me, I gave up. Nothing I did helped the unit provide relief from a mild chill in the air.
Customer Review: Cozy, toasty, but poor build quality Summary: 3 Stars
We live in Chicago and decided to buy this heater to save some money on heating costs by turning off our central heat and using this unit. For just the 2 of us in a 2 bedroom apartment, we move this unit from the living room, to the bedroom, and even the bathroom in the morning.
The problem is that the unit has "melted" after just 1 year of use. It might have been due to our practice of creating a "heat tent"...we place the heater by our feet next to the sofa, and creat a "tent" over the heater with us in it...I think the blanket fell on he heater and it overheated. The unit still works, but only on the medium mode...on hot, the overheat switch trips...also, the plastic and metal are deformed...at least we didn't set the apartment on fire!!! It seems pretty safe otherwise with a very sensitive tip-off and overheat switch.
Before it malfunctioned, it did get us nice and warm, even through the bitter chicago winter last year.
Overall 3 stars: warm, compact, powerful, and stylish...but didn't last 1 year.
