Tools and Hardware Reviews of Honeywell HZ-7200 Cool Touch Oscillating Heater w/ Smart Energy Digital Control Plus

Customer Review: Highly recomended
Summary: 4 Stars

Having read a very favorable review in the New York Times, I took the plunge and ordered the Honeywell HZ-7200 Cool Touch Oscillating Heater. I've been thoroughly pleased with it so far. It throws off a lot of heat; it's quiet and relatively lightweight (face it, you'll probably want to move your space heater around); and the price was considerable lower than other heaters. The only thing keeping me from a giving a full 5-star rating was my perverse sense that nothing short of the sublime was worthy of such a ranking--which is hard to imagine in the case of a lowly space heater (however nice it might be).

Customer Review: Honeywell HZ-7200 Cool Touch Oscillating Heater
Summary: 5 Stars

It is currently heating a 20x30 room with adjacent kitchen and some of the heat is going up stairs to a bedroom. The room is usually about 70 deg. F and my nephew sits at his computer in his pajamas.
It replaced a $200 eBay EdenPure (EP) which almost caught fire. The EP had a broken fan, fried thermostat and bearing problem then it tried to commit suicide. The Honeywell sits on top of the EP. LOL. :-(
If the other EP dies I will get another Honeywell.

Customer Review: Honeywell is 0 for 2
Summary: 1 Stars

I had a Honeywell heater in my office for a couple years. It did OK until last week when it stopped completely. I was able to find this model and bought one last Friday. When I put it into service, it worked OK. It was quiet and produced enough heat on the Max setting to knock off the chill. However, this morning, after 3 days of use, it stopped just like the other one. I have checked the wiring circuits, outlets, etc. - not that - the problem is in the electronic circuit board in the heater. Now made in China, so they save a lot of money. Hope they save enough to offset the business they lose. My next one will be a different brand.

Customer Review: Mediocre Heater
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought this a month ago during a particularly cold period. Here's what I've noticed so far:

Pros
-Energy efficient. This is nice because it means I can justify leaving it on longer.
-If it gets bumped, it turns off. I use this on carpet and safety was a concern.
-The heating settings are nice. You can set it for different temperature settings and when it reaches that temperature, it'll turn off. It's useful for if you want to leave the heater on at night without worrying it'll get too warm.
-The rotating feature is pretty nice. Nothing special about it, but nice.

Cons
-The cord is short. VERY short. You'll ever need to leave this right next to the outlet or get an extension cord.
-It's not that effective. To warm one, small room, I have to make sure all doors that lead to another room are shut and leave this on for a long while.

As for the noise, it's not loud, but its definitely not silent. You can hear the fan. If you're looking for a silent heater, this isn't for you.

Overall: It's pretty good for the price and it has some nice features, but overall, it's a pretty weak heater.

UPDATE: After reading the comment, I looked underneath and sure enough, there was more cord. It still isn't that long of a cord but its better than what I thought, so I gave it an extra star!

Customer Review: Needs fan only feature
Summary: 2 Stars

This heater lacks a fan only feature. I don't understand why they would leave such a simple feature out. I'd want to use this as just a fan in the summer, but with this unit, the heating element is always on. You can set the temperature, but in 5 degree increments. Chances are you'll want a setting in between these.
