Tools and Hardware Reviews of Honeywell Long-Life Pure HEPA QuietCare Air Purifier, 17000

Customer Review: Excellent Experience
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased a Honeywell 17000 Air Purifier from a huge retail home products store for my son's dorm room. The box had been sealed but when I opened it the item had obviously been used and returned since the filter was soiled. I ordered on line and purchased the same item for less money and free shipping. The box was in pristine condition and clearly never opened. The air purifier inside was sealed in plastic for cleanliness. I was extraordinarily pleased with this purchase and the item works perfectly for removing dust, odors and air-borne viruses from the dorm room.

Customer Review: Excellent air cleaner
Summary: 5 Stars

I first purchased one of these units in 2000 and I'm still a fan of them. It works well and quickly, clearing the air of dust and odors in a room within an hour after it's switched on. It is not too large or heavy (about 14" tall and 5 lbs) and has a handle, making it easy to move around the house. IMO it's quieter than most Holmes products. These days the replacement HEPA filters for Honeywell are cheaper than Holmes too. You can extend the life of the HEPA filter and prefilter by gentle monthly (or every other month) vacuuming of the exterior case and the internal filters. I've tried some other models, and none worked as well at cleaning the air, or were as quiet as this model.

Customer Review: Excellent purifier
Summary: 5 Stars

After reading dozens of reviews from many people about this product and other products, I thought that I would give this air purifier a shot. Two months laters and I do not regret buying it. This purifier is excellent at removing dust and other nasty "air grime." I noticed the morning after I bought it, my nose was not stuffy, I do not sneeze as much (inside my house) I used to, and the air is noticeably "crisp and clean." I turn it on at night about an hour or two before I go to bed and when I enter my room to go to bed, the air is clean and crisp. Maybe not you, but I definitely can feel the air cleaner.

Now to address those pesky complaints about it being too loud since I am one of those people who cannot go to bed with any type of noise in my bedroom; I don't even want flies breathing in my room! On High setting it is loud- this setting should be used if you are watching TV, are awake, or are leaving the house and want a certain room to be "purified." I started off at low and, to be honest, it is loud but not too loud enough that you won't fall asleep. I would compare it to having the air conditioning in your car at medium. No matter what, I'm sure you can grow adjusted to it. I've even moved up to Medium setting which is a little louder (medium-high) but I can still go to sleep.

As for cleaning, just follow the instruction manual and you'll be fine. Wiping the top of the purifier at least once a week is a good idea to prevent the dust around it from spreading. It does get dusty but I assume it's from sucking the air to the purifier.

Overall, this is a great product and I would definitely recommend it. It does the job that it says on the box and does it well. Unfortunately, mine broke today :( But I am going straight to Target tomorrow to exchange it. Hopefully, I can find the receipt =) Happy buying!

Customer Review: Excellent quiet air scrubber
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought a Honeywell Enviracaire HEPA following a large brush fire in our area, it worked very well to clean our indoor air. It's just about silent. I replace the prefilter once every three months, and the big HEPA filter about every other year. It's amazing to see how much dust and crud collects on the prefilters. I'm happier having the Honeywell Enviracaire take the dust out of the air instead of our lungs!

Customer Review: Excellent, powerful, and economical
Summary: 5 Stars

I have purchased 3 different brands of home air purifiers (Honeywell 17000, Oreck XL Professional, and Holmes Mini Tower HEPA), and the Honeywell 17000 works the best. It is very powerful and pulls much more dust out of the air than the Oreck XL (which is more expensive, though quieter). The only potential drawback one may have with the Honeywell 17000 is that it is a bit loud at medium and high speeds. This noise is simply due to the movement of air, rather than the sound of a motor. I highly recommend this unit for those who want to reliably remove dust and pet dander from the air; I change the filter every 2 months.
