I bought one of these in Dec. 2004 and it is exactly as pictured with canvas shelves. When you feel the shelves, you can tell that they have hardboard sandwiched between them making a durable surface that does not sag. I just purchased a second one and opened it today (May 2008) and while the top is still canvas-covered hardboard, the shelves are now plastic.
I came back here to see if I'd accidentally ordered a cheaper version, but the model number is the same. Whitney has indeed changed their design, and to be fair I see now that if you scroll all the way down to the Product Description under the Amazon.com review, it's been updated to "6 Shelf, Sweater Organizer With Plastic Shelves...". But keeping the original picture and Product Features, which only show and mention canvas, is highly misleading.
I tested out the plastic shelves and they do not compare to the original that I own which is still going strong (no sagging). Plus of course, it doesn't match. I will be returning this. Hope this helps others make a more informed buying decision.

For the money, a very sturdy bag that is secured by a velcro wrap around your closet poles, that actually holds! I have one upstairs for sweaters, and one downstairs to organize our gloves, hats, compact umbrellas etc.Customer Review: Review

I always just stacked my t-shirts on the floor because drawers are not conducive to easy selection. With this organizer the stacks go in the closet and my floor returns to order. I have two already and I'm getting another.Customer Review: Saves dresser space!

After seeing one of these in my friend's closet, I decided to get one to store all the bulky sweaters and pullovers that were crammed into my husbands drawers. I love it, my husband (who never notices anything) loves it too. Very sturdy construction- the velcro strap holds the weight of the clothes without falling down (I was happy with that because I had originally wanted hangers). Doesn't take up too much space in the closet and reaches almost to my floor. All in all, a great organizer that will free all a ton of valuable dresser space.
