Customer Review: My third retractable clothesline

Having had two retractable clotheslines before, I looked for one on the internet. I knew I couldn't replace it where I bought the last two. My first one wore out. I was unhappy when icicles fron the roof of my two story house fell on my retractable clothes line. The icicles were so big that they broke the housing of my clothes line. I knew I wanted a new one just like I had previously. I was very happy to find it. I am 74 years old and have used these lines for probably 35 or 40 years. This clothesline lasted less than one month. The idea of the design is great, but the stress points need to be metal. For some reason, the brackets that hold a huge amount of weight are plastic, and the only metal is the handle and the attaching bracket on the opposing end. We loved it for 3 weeks until the plastic brackets snapped apart in a 5mph breeze and my brand new white sheets were impaled around a rose bush.The only part of the line remaining attached to a structure was the opposing metal bracket with metal handle. I would have gladly spent more dollars for a better product. Now I am on the search again! The company would have replaced the clothesline for me, but why? The clothesline is just going to repeat failure unless the quality is improved.

I loved this clothesline. It was kind of a pain to set up initially, but to be able to hid it away is great. Unfortunately, you can not buy replacement parts, as I found out when a curious bear broke the tension knob and now the unit is useless. I haven't had it a year, and it's going to the dump. There is no way to keep tension on the lines once that knob goes. (Even duct tape has it's limits!)Customer Review: Overall, OK, but quirky

This is our second retractable clothesline. Our first met with an untimely end. We purchased this one because it seemed to have all the features of the ill-fated one. The first one Whitney sent to us did not retract properly, so after contacting the company, they promptly sent a replacement. The second one retracts. It is harder to tighten the line one it's locked than on the one we ruined, and some of the heavier or larger items (sheets and towels) tend to slip down the line and not stay where I pin them. Overall, though, it's what we wanted which is something with the capacity to hold a lot of laundry that we can retract when not in use.Customer Review: Plastic Failure

The Cloths line worked reasonably well for the first few months, but then the plastic knob on the left side broke and, apparently, cannot be replaced. The piece is actually a ratcheting lock that keeps the line tensioned. Without it the line will just sag and is useless. As stated above, this part should not be plastic.
I went to the company website "Whitney Design" and there isn't even a link for support or parts; check it out. That's a question I should have asked before paying $55 for this; "Does the company support what they sell?"
I would not buy this product again.
