I really like the over the washer shelf. If I had to find some complaint, it would be that I had to pull the washer farther away from the wall then I would have preferred because of the angle of the connecting bars, but that is the worst issue (so totally do-able).
My only other complaint was more for amazon and the wasteful way they shipped the items (I ordered 3, they sent each separate in really oversized boxes - all 3 could have easily fit in one box with room to spare!)

This is a nice size shelf and made nicely as well. I have a 14 yr old washer/dryer set and it did not work. It must be made for the newer machines. It wasn't even close to working in any way or form. I ordered the Household Essentials 5100 Over Washer Storage Shelf as part of a recent reorganizing frenzy in my laundry room. For this great price, I was sure I was going to get some additional storage space, which is always welcome.
The shelf went together easily, the directions are simple. The support brackets that go behind the washer/dryer don't bend as easily as the directions make it sound like they will, but they did bend enough to get it set up alright.
Unfortunately, I had not noticed that right behind my washing machine, right where this shelf would rest on the wall, is the recessed box in the wall with the water hookups, where water hoses stick out in just the wrong places to keep this shelf from reaching the wall. Not only that, but over the dryer, the electrical socket & plug for the dryer are right where the shelf would need to reach the wall to work there.
Now, perhaps it is because I have a low-profile Fisher Paykel washer/dryer set, with control panels that only come up about 4" above the tops of the washer & dryer. If the panels were higher, with a flat top perhaps, like the one shown in the product picture, then this probably would have worked.
But even when I rested the shelf as close to the wall as I could get it, and looked at it, the angled control panels of the Fisher Paykel washer and dryer would be very difficult to access below this shelf. The product picture shows a more upright control panel, whereas mine are more reclined.
I wanted this shelf to work, I really did. But I ended up giving to my sister last weekend, and she told me two days later that it fits perfectly over her dryer, and is holding all her laundry supplies, giving her space to fold stuff right out of the dryer now.
So check behind the area you want to use it before you order it, and check the height and angle of your washer/dryer panels first.

I have found this shelf to be exactly what it claims to be - a means of adding moderate storage space to an otherwise often-wasted space. It appears to be steady and solid, holding the odds and ends of our small laundry room, as well as providing space for baskets to hold keys/other items that might usually be tossed on a kitchen counter. I am pleased and would definitely recommend it to increase storage space. I have not had problems with it fitting poorly/sliding around/etc. (even during the washer's spin cycle and while the dryer is in full swing). I bent the supports below the shelf per the enclosed directions to fit both snug and level. We have a Kenmore 80 series washer/dryer.

This shelf got all the bottles of soap, fabric softener, etc. off the dryer and out of the way. Makes a big difference in folding clothes.
